The Japanese attacked on Pear Harbor killed 3,000 and disabled many US Sailors in addition to many where blinded. The loss of ships and property was expensive in addition Japan attacked the Phillipines, Guam and other US bases. US Prisoners of war were tortured, maimed and beaten the Japanese used US POWS for medical expirimentation at Unit 731. The Japanese where convcited of many crimes and the US was kind to Japan however if the Japanese had the Atomic they would have used on the USA, By the way you should watch Japans Atomic Bomb Part 1 and learn how close Japan came to having the Atomic bomb because Hitler had supplied Japan with enriched uranium. Please don't play the the poor innocent Japanese victim role! Don't firget the Batan Death March where the Japanese killed 10,000 American soldiers.

I’m one of the citizens of Ginowan city. And the base is 50 meters away from my house. I’m always annoyed with the noise of helicopters and jet fighters. And they dropped the part of a helicopter in a kindergarten 2 years ago, and dropped the window of the helicopter in the ground of a elementary school 3 years ago. But they are still flying above our house and kindergartens and school. I want to remove this dangerous base from my city, but I don’t want to pollute the beautiful Henoko’s ocean. There is a great nature and a lot of rare creatures. There must be any other way to remove the base, but Japanese government says “That is the only way to remove the Ginowan’s base” without having enough discussion. It is not only a problem of Okinawa, it’s problem of Japan. All of Japanese people and government have to treat this problem as it is our own problem. Thank you for reading this comment 😊

US Military Base-- yes... but, it is ALSO Japan's Defense against aggression from those who wish to do Japan harm. Look at it from that perspective, and the Japanese protesters are actually protesting their own country's best defense! Besides, most victors of war would have taken the entire country as spoils of war; but, not the USA. America rebuilt Japan. Compare America's after-war treatment of Japan to Japan's treatment of countries they invaded during WW2. Japan had no mercy for those whom it invaded during WW2. Big difference to 'protest' about.

Yeah... what is the reason the US have 1000 military bases outside of their own borders? I've never really understood that, the need for that much military dominance... they have them in Italy, Germany, Australia, they heavily dominate the Asian Pacific too, why?
@nelsonzou3890

The reason is because the U.S. is the dominant power in the world so the U.S. wants to keep it that way to. Which is also the reason why U.S. currency are so valued and accepted in every major country. If the U.S. were to pull out from those countries, Russia and China would just take over the empty spots, only furthering their power.

Its a strategy based on warfare. You see setting up military bases could give you a greater advantage point. It happened back in WW2 and in Vietnam War where united states, China and Russia expanded their power around the globe just in case for another global fight. Because if they don't, some smaller either 3rd world country or not will be left undefended during another great war.

Unfortunately this was reported quite inadequately & also from primarily an anti-US bias (only speaking w/ drunk US military grunts, really?) instead of covering all the intricate sides of the issues involved properly. I absolutely agree w/ many issues that a portion of the Okinawans have. A good friend of mine I grew up w/ is Okinawan & the issues involved are far more complex than shown here. A very important aspect is the Japanese history of how they treat the Okinawans & how this restricts the US's ability to work directly w/ Okinawan leaders as the Japanese govt has full control of Okinawa & is legally a part of Japan. Personally I would like to see the Japanese govt give Okinawa more automony & this would help iron out a major aspect influencing all issues involved. The Okinawans are a very smart ppl & I'm sure deals accepted by the 3 parties involved could be reached then.

The French man who was the narrator for this piece should do a special on how the French government treated ,or should I say , mistreated the Vietnamese people when the ran rough shod over that country . I also lived in Vietnam for 5 years and got to know many older Vietnamese who do not have good memories of how the French ruled that country . This guy makes it sound like we invaded Okinawa just to take it over . It was used as a stepping stone to stop Japans desire to rule that whole area as part of the Axis power . 🎃🎃

From the end of World War II to 1972, Okinawa was a US possession gained as a result of the spoils of war and by agreement in the treaty. The protesters don't acknowledge how they and their fathers were employed in the massive construction projects from 1949 on. They were treated well and pretty much taken care of. How would that have gone if China took control? They have a legitimate complaint about how a few servicemen have acted and committed crimes against the native people. Those perpetrators should be punished. There is more at stake here and the Prime Minister of Japan knows it. North Korea is a loose cannot and is a very real threat to Japan and others. Okinawa is a strategic location for air bases and rapid US Marine deployment to Asia in addition to our military people in South Korea and Guam. Okinawa depends on currency from the US military, US military personnel and their dependents for their own livelihood and Japan knows it. The issues regarding the islands in the South China Sea is another bone of contention which is a serious concern for not only Japan, but the Philippines and Vietnam. Keeping the US military in Okinawa is necessary because they are the main deterrent from China and especially North Korea from doing anything stupid other than saber rattling.

Speaking from experience Okinawa is a beautiful and amazing place. I am extremely apologetic towards the Okinawan’s for some of my fellow Americans actions. And yes I would love for the USA military to be able to leave the island. The Japanese government and USA government are working on a plan. But people must also understand that USA and Japan must work together to make sure that China and other countries in Asia do not interfere with the peace of Okinawa after US forced relocate.

Futima was built around the military base after it was established. There is a large communist presence on Okinawa. Other areas have had similar incursions. The spirits of Okinawa will never rest, while the Americans remain. I spent a few days in 2018 in Okinawa, in the company of a Shinto religious leader, studying the spiritual issues associated with the US presence and I attended a powerful, Shinto religious ceremony at a shoreline religious site which highlighted the spiritual disturbance, where the victors of WW2 stayed and didn't go home. It seems like the US will never leave and the ghosts will never be able to rest, as a result. This is the big issue of Okinawa.

Sooner new, remote base is opened, the sooner the existing US Marine base will be returned to the Japanese government. The city was allowed to be build around the base up to the boundary. This was allowed by local government officials and supported by voters. Yes Okinawa is overburdened by numbers of US military personal but you can’t beat the location. Same reason Hawaii is crammed with US military personal / bases. As to landfill, Japanese developers are world leaders in landfill development, just see Tokyo Bay. The area for the runway makes it possible to have the least impact in local area it is being build in. Japanese central government subsidizes Okinawa more then any other area in Japan. If US Forces were to leave it would cause a long term recession and cause it to hollow out population wise like a lot of areas in Japan.

China Is Running Out Of Water 84% of China's underground water is not suitable for drinking. To many rivers are too polluted to touch. According to recent statistics released last April the Chinese PLA aka government. 84 percent of the rural water supply in China is now unsafe for drinking or bathing. Think about that because it's worse than you can imagine the wars that will be fought if China keeps over populating to the point where it will steal water from it's neighbors. This is part of China's long term goal of conquest by overpopulation.

Japan is a sovereign country. US forces are stationed in Japan at the request and invitation of the Japanese government. The MUTUAL defense treaty serves BOTH the United States and Japan. Okinawa is strategically better geographically located than anywhere else in Japan. If Japan no longer wanted US forces in its country, they could easily rescind the mutual defense treaty. If you look at the SOFA agreement with Japan there is not to be any residents, schools, and business 500 yards from the fence line of the bases. But with growth the populace was allowed to move closer and closer. In some parts of Futenma there are houses maybe 18 inches from the fence. The US allowed this due to the growing population in Okinawa. As horrible as those accidents are they were just that accidents. Should Futenma be moved yes, it can be relocated to Kadena as majority of aircraft flown on Futenman are Attack heliocopters.
