The poster for the movie The Seeds of the Sacred Fig Tree was everywhere in the city. Last night I went with my wife to see it. When we entered the hall, I looked around and realized that all the seats were taken, mainly by people with light or blond hair. Maybe we were the only Iranians there. The movie was shown in German and I translated some parts for my wife. The speed at which information was conveyed was slow. Nevertheless, this deliberate pace allowed for a deep exploration of the mental states of the characters and the cruel environment in which they operate. The plot revolves around Iman, an investigating judge at the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, who becomes increasingly paranoid as the nationwide Mahsa Amini protests intensify. The movie lasts 168 minutes. For the Germans, it was perhaps a good movie. They followed every scene closely, but we lived these moments in reality.
