Stop the thing of "Reclaim" Working on a Farm does not entitle you to suddenly be a co-owner of the farm. They are talking of Redistribution. Take note - Redistribution, because all history proves that the whites did not steal the land. What you are witnessing is blatant theft based on race. The Apartheid Government relocated people yes - but they were compensated, given alternative land. In fact - after the relocation of 1913 blacks had more and better land than before. There is not even remotely a comparison between then and now - because what you see now is a cabal of thieves who claim that the 2% land from which people were relocated in 1913 now justifies them to take 100% of the entire South Africa without historical or legal justification. This is theft. Full Stop. And the world is silent or cheering on. And you French - you who tell Israel to go for a "Two State Solution", may you soon see your land also divided up among foreign nations as you are accomplices in the persecution of the Boer Nation and Israel. Southern Africa should be grateful for Europeans coming here and creating abundance where there was little more than stone age development. European settlers came and dragged this part of Africa, kicking and screaming, up from the primordial ooze and rather quickly established a society and infrastructure that could parallel any. The native Africans also enjoyed the fruits of this renaissance or else they would not have flooded here in their numbers (even during the height of apartheid). Their population exploded due to the increased life expectancy and lowered infant mortality rates, introduced and afforded to them by Western technologies. Then, not so long ago the keys were handed to them. The keys to a veritable Rolls Royce of countries. And in less than thirty years they've managed to seize the engine, steal the wheels and destroy the paint job. It's sad but, unfortunately, Africans seem unable to run countries. The amount of condescending comments on this post defeats me. People are choosing to go that so called Zimbabwe way because they have had enough of their dignity trampled over by way of having their land stolen such that they are born and die without ever owning anything. Yet over 80% of land is owned by less that 10% of white settlers and their children and grandchildren. Expropriation is long overdue; Mandela, the sellout, should have done this very earlier on. I am sure English speaking countries will want to help you out just give up the stolen land. The English right now don’t care if Brexit makes them poor, in the same way S Africans should not care about going the so called Zimbabwe way, it’s time for everyone to ‘take back control’!

The moral issue involved is that every person has an equal birthright in the planet. Yet, (mostly by force of arms) we have carved the planet into nation-states and carved the nation-states into estates for individuals and private entities to control. Controlling any part of the planet is a privilege, demanding compensation be paid into a fund to be used to pay for public goods and services and to distribute a citizens dividend to all. The amount of this charge must equate to the potential annual rental value of whatever parcel or tract of land is controlled. This approach to “land reform” will not correct all of the injustice of the past, but it will create a better present and a far more just future for all.

In the case mentioned it would be at least 200 Million Rand, not their fantasy price of 20 Million. To me both the ANC mainly consists of socialists obsessed with the land questions already discussed by Marx. All that has been proven wrong, unproductive and inefficient decades ago. The governance of the ANC for nearly 25 years is as well not a story of excellence and pure success. To my eyes neither the ANC nor their radical relatives from the EFF are in the near of being capable of that task.

There was donor funding for land redistribution without destruction way back in the Mandela years. It worked for maybe two or three years, then suddenly it became impossible to give up a farm under the scheme (I knew someone who tried to transfer his farm to his farm workers at the time. Every time he completed the paperwork he'd find nothing had happened. Went so far as to book an interview, drive 400km there to attend it, go systematically through the steps remaining to be completed, agreed there were just five things (and simple things), went home, sorted those out. And then ... nothing. So he just gave up. I think what most likely happened was that the farmers who got in quickly were able to sell up, and then someone stole the money, the donors found out, the money dried up, the compensation scheme withered away.) So an ANC government more than 20 years later talking as if this is the start of "land redistribution" at least (which someone was standing in the way of, but who knows who that might be?) is obvious bullshit to anyone who knows just a few of the facts. So then what's really going on? (Hint. It has nothing to do with turning people into land owners. Hint. There's an election coming up, and a lot more people have stopped telling themselves fairy tales about the ANC). The government has enormous amounts of state land. They have not distributed enormous amounts of it. Their political game is to keep people unhappy, and provide them with someone to blame (for Everything, not just what happened more than 30 years ago) ... 30 years? Yes. Most apartheid legislation was scrapped by the previous regime. All that remained by '94 was "political apartheid". They realized they'd done wrong, and they tried to do what they could to set things right without exposing the country to what they perceived as a dangerous risk of being governed by the ANC. Looks like they were right about that. It seemed just a plain and simple matter of "good and evil" back then, but clearly those of us who thought so were just babies in nappies who knew nothing about the real world. Today, even if I had some land claim I could pursue, I would consider it more important Not to Destroy Everything, first. Other policies come second to that. (But not if you're ANC.) I would consider that when this Ukraine crisis began, we were not one of those African countries faced with the risk of starvation. Because we produce enough food to feed ourselves. And not by fairy dust and magick, either. We have food security, and this ANC is willing to even jeopardize our food security just so they can stay in power and keep on stealing for another five years, because the electorate is stupid enough to fall for it every time. (I've heard of a lot of land redistribution programs - and seen the effects of these too - that worked out to be just plain destructive, in the past. We have a diminished agricultural sector because of politicized land redistribution, already - just on a small enough scale not to send the whole country into a desperate condition. The one that stands out most for me was Lisbon Estates near Kruger Park. It was handed to those voters in exchange for their votes, and went from a 30 million rand profit to a 30 million rand loss in one year. You could see how the trees were all dying, when driving past. I don't know what's there, now. Sometimes what happens in the end is that the community rents the land out to a commercial farmer or agribusiness conglomerate, and production returns. Thing is there's a track record of disastrous "land reform" already, going back a long, long way. Never mind when the locusts land on your crops, the real danger is the ANC swarm.) There are still some commercial farmers. They keep all sorts of unusual things on the supermarket shelves (as well as the basics). Some of them are black. (Who cares what colour a farmer is - but in a country kept unhappy to keep it stupid with that it's some kind of issue.) How to fix the land problem? Definitely not the "You go live my little dream" way some aid organizations fix things. Here's something that might work (might not - and shouldn't be pursued further if that's the case): Have a "land doubling" program in African areas. Help one family establish in the city, and hand their land over to a neighbour of their choosing. See whether more land makes you more produce. If it does, do another round, increasing the holdings of the most successful, and again supporting an urban future for those whose land is allocated to the better farmers. (Yes, expropriation. WITH compensation.) Now, if more resources has had the effect you were hoping it would, you have a selection of farmers who might be able to take over an expropriated farm (with compensation, obviously, again). The most important thing is not to destroy agricultural production, though, not to create little real life dream worlds with people in them with the job of living out your fantasies, and nothing much else. The global trend is toward urbanization, so it's the ugly, dirty, mean cities that need to be fixed, not the countryside. For most people the best future is in the city. For a very few, the farming life is what they do best, and do well. It's much easier to become just about any kind of urban worker/professional you care to mention, than to become a good farmer. But the politicians looking for someone else to blame for the harm they've done to this country (and for useful idiots willing to believe them) are not going to even hear this.
