Germaine Tailleferre has been a great discovery, a underrated composer only because she was a woman... now times are changing and her music starts, finally, to be discovered. If she is not a Stravinsky or a Bartók, she is equal to Milhaud, Poulenc or other members of the Six group, and, together with Lili Boulanger, perhaps the greatest female french composer of the xxth century.

I don't think there is any Tailleferre composition I don't just Love... she out-Poulencs Poulenc sometimes, strains of Satie, Debussy and Ravel, but it's her own melodic mind creating all this bliss. Aren't we lucky beyond all imaginings.

Echt Klasse!

I was at this concert with Tailleferre's granddaughter, who grew up under her grandmother's piano. She thought that the tempos were all too slow.

@@PaulWehage Thanks for your nice and informative reply. I still think that the tempo is appropriate. Anyway, a beautiful performance.

Paul Wehage. I don’t know what compelled me to note the comment that Madame Tailleferre’s granddaughter thought the tempo to be “too slow “. I happen to agree with your assessment that the tempo is entirely appropriate. Although this performance was of a slower tempo it is the composition itself that mattered. There are various tempos that could be applied to its performance with each of them having its own advantages. It was a pleasure to attend this performance with both you and Tailleferre’s granddaughter at the the invitation of Monsieur Christoph Dardenne of Billaudot who published this work. It is natural to note that your publishing company has done a marvelous job along with Billaudot in publishing the work of this composer who is presently attracting the attention of melomanes internationally due to this composer’s unique interior musical life.

I've never seen a conductor sit down before, except maybe on a high stool, let alone with one foot off the podium. Smart to have the harp on a riser.

Maestro Franck had a sports accident as a younger man that left one of his legs weaker. He can stand only part of his time on the podium.

Where can I find the score?
@robertshapiro3733 Жыл бұрын
The score was published by Billaudot (Paris) during the late-1950s. It was intended initially for the film entitled “Elevator to the Gallows”. When making enquires at the publisher it would behoove you to ask for Monsieur Christoph Dardenne and/or Monsieur Pierre Dervaux.

Nelly LiPuma. It might be currently out of print but George Martin and Mikko Franck managed to obtain copies. Did you happen to inquire if the three/movement work is available on a rental basis? I will do what I can to see that you receive a copy or copies to study and or perform. I happen to own the better part of Tailleferre’s original scores so please allow me to see if I can procure a copy. Also, since the piece is becoming popular for the first time ever, I see no reason why Billaudot with the friendly Christophe Dardenne and Pierre Dervaux would not agree to photocopy the score for you. I will contact a colleague, Paul Wehage if he would be able to help me get a copy to you.

Nelly LiPuma. I attended the performance which is available on KZbin. It took place in December of 2019 in Paris at the wonderful Radio-France auditorium. I was in the company of Germaine Tailleferre’s granddaughter as well as Paul Wehage. It was a wonderful performance. Have you heard the version that George Martin produced which has been released on CD? The same George Martin, in fact, who was responsible for almost all of the The Beatles albums.
@robertshapiro3733 Жыл бұрын
Nelly LiPuma. If you can’t obtain a copy of the George Martin version, it would be my pleasure to either send you a copy of the CD if I can find an extra one or at least to send you a copy of the performance itself in some form.
