The most beautiful song in the world and she has an amazing voice. This song has followed me through my childhood and have helped me through bad times.

Part of the "Save the Children" show was broadcast on HBO a long time ago, but this wasn't among the clips they used. I had no idea until now there was more to it! Thanks for posting this.

I agree with you fifibella00 about Eponine! Epi was supposed to be a lovesick street waif at the point in the story Frances portrayed her, so her singing and vocal tones, esp. in the Broadway version, were perfect!

@RyanMauger Another way of looking at it is that you are fortunate to be able to appreciate real talent.

...so talented! she's probably the only reason as to why I'd buy the track to 'Starlight Express' I love her very honest and (as most claim) whiny Eponine! I do, I do!

I will probably get a lot of hate mail but here goes nothing. Lea Solonga is a great artist with a great voice, but I much prefer Frances Ruffelle as Eponine. The emotional range she had for the character never faltered and she didn't feel like the song, On My Own, needed to belted every few chords. And this song became one of my favorite Christmas songs when I was a young adult.

Frances IS the original Eponine! Who earn many awards and critical acclaim for her role, as Lea will ALWAYS be Miss Saigon! Stop comparing already!

In the book even though Eponine was feisty and frustrated w the unrequitted love it was partially due to her losing her mind, but she was more sad than angry if you ask me. When she plotted, she became racked with guilt and remorse and could not go through with it. She was strong, but you need to reread the book if you think she wasnt devestated w the unrequitted love. It was very clear how heartbroken she was each time she talked with Marius but she refused to let that sadness show around other people which is part of the reason he couldnt figure it out himself. Having said that Lea is a phenomenal performer, but Frances is the better Eponine. Eponine is a character whom though strong is heartbroken and though good and pure at heart has lost all innocence. Lea's performance and voice bleed innocence and make Eponine a bit annoying with sounding so wrong. Everything about Frances from her physicalizations, her movement, her facial expressions and voice show that loss of innocence. They say: im a good person so i dont know why life has kicked me so much. theres no return now and the one ray of hope in my life will never be mine. reguardless, ill still play it like life doesnt bother me. And it come off as her being a very heartbreaking character much like the book. Im sorry Frances IS Eponine so whether or not you approve of her you have to learn to accept that.

It's not from a show. It's from the "Save the Children" Christmas album that had all those West End stars on it.
