Francis Bacon - "Bacon's Arena" (Portrait, BBC "Arena")

Since his death in 1992, BBC's "Arena" was in 2005 the only broadcaster to be granted exclusive permission by the Estate of Francis Bacon to make a film about his life. Bacon's paintings are some of the most vivid, haunting and ferocious in art history, and his life was as outrageous as his art. The film is saturated with Bacon's forceful presence, his imperious and seductive voice - a testament to the unparalleled range and originality of Bacon's insights into his own work.
Even more appreciated abroad than in Britain, Bacon is revealed as a global phenomenon. The documentary extends far beyond the Soho caricature of the Bacon legend, featuring visits to Paris, Madrid, Tangier, Ireland and New York. Contributors include Bacon's sister Ianthe and those closest to him, and the programme features original music by Brian Eno (Director: Adam Low, 2005).

the suffering is his key point because mostly those who have suffered never have a voice that will ever be heard so many screams will never be known about but the bullshit of this life being amazing is lived by so few in comparison to the masses of pain and quiet suffering

I really hate the bull fighting scenes. It's so horrible to think how the animal is suffering. 😢 other than that, it is an excellent documentary.

Isn't Bacon an Irish artist since he was born in Co. Dublin Ireland? The narrator says British wtf!

His family was part of the Anglo Irish population. He had Anglo Irish blood and produced most of his work in London, England. He’s Irish British if you want to get down to specifics as him and his family descended from English Protestants, hence why they where a potential target in Ireland as stated in the opening quarter of the documentary. He’s not from the Irish heritage or culture who detest the English and was proud to be British his entire documented life.
