I can’t get enough of this man. I would have liked knowing him & Borroughs.

Thank you for being such an amazing, nautral, humanistic, funny Artist, Francis. Thank you to whoever posted these videos and to the interviewer who ask those questions. Thank you to the production company who was able to capture him on camera. I dont paint, but Francis's explanations is helping me get over my ability to attack my own projects in my work.

"CHAMPAGNE for my REAL friends and PAIN to my SHAM friends." ~ Francis Bacon.

I think of Bacon as being consummate in being able to reject the soporific drowsy lotus-eating of industrialised capitalism, and he reaches into the real raw sense of animal humanness that if we all paid attention to it would help us to reject the hypnotic destruction of what is creative about all of us. He is constantly referring to this immense and continual creativity.

I've listened a lot to Francis, just KZbin and I've come to the conclusion he's slightly economical with the truth. His paintings are genius, almost alive with visceral reality but I think he had a few secrets, God bless him.
@Robhalifax11 ай бұрын
I agree. He only gives so much away. I don't think its about secrets. Its more about not wanting to bare his soul. He can let his pictures do that.

I do get the impression that Bragg is, through his questioning, trying to tease out an admission from Francis that his paintings come about by pure chance and accident and nothing else, and to get Bacon to admit that he is in fact a fraud who has conned the artistic world into believing that his paintings are masterpieces when in fact they are nothing of the sort. Perhaps this was the prevalent feeling amongst his fiercest critics at the time but I do find this line of questioning slightly unsettling and is an example of Bragg' tendency to pander to the lowest form of critic, that is those critics of the tabloid variety.
@sn1000k7 жыл бұрын
Bmk I don't know that Richard agrees with this position, I think he is (accurately) just reflecting what he sees the interviewer getting at.
@stevestone45616 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree in part, Mr. Bragg does seem to question on trend and has a low brow journalistic bent of questioning. It was however, interesting to witness the tone change, when the 'basket of wine was brought out'
@fifimelville24345 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine how you came to this conclusion. Probably your own preconceived opinion. Bragg is trying to tease out more about the motivation of the artist and Bacon is quite evasive at times.
@andrewmartin64453 жыл бұрын
Anybody who says they like Bacon's art is lying, but that doesn't stop them being important art.

Bacon was a great, original artist. Always provocative and challenging. Now Basquait: total fraud!
