This excerpt is from the onstage interview I did with Coppola on June 9, 2015 at Manhattan's 92nd Street Y. I asked him about "Ashes and Diamonds" because I think it's one of the greatest films of all time!

Another great movie with Zbigniew Cybulski and also my all-time favorite Polish movie is "Night Train" ("Pociąg") from 1959. Masterpiece.

There are several scenes in Cybulski's movies that pretty much mirror the way he would eventually die in 1967. Namely scenes of him jumping into a moving train at the last moment. That's the way he died in real life.

His eyesight was also very poor and possibly contributed to his accident.

Not an obscure film, or at least it shouldn't be for anyone who watches & appreciates world cinema. Sure the themes are complex for anyone who doesn't know Polish culture or history, but it is quite simply a masterpiece. Also would be good to hear the entire interview & what he has to say about it

Francis Ford Coppola on Pixar?

God responses like this frustrate me. 😠 He basically said *nothing* about the film, WHY he loves it specifically, WHAT makes it so special... Just "it's a great film, it's not well known, the actor died young - which is sad." 🙄 Gee, thanks Coppola.

Yeah he's obviously a brilliant director but so many of his interviews weirdly suck. I guess he really took that 'show, don't tell' motto to heart.
