It's not like Ohtani gets free WAR by being a DH. He gets the most amount of negative WAR for being in the game whereas a SS gets the most positive WAR. If a DH is near a SS in WAR can it truly be said that the SS is more valuable? If Lindor is truly elite at defense then WAR would reflect that. fWAR where Lindor leads by like .3, Fangraphs themselves state that a gap that small is within margin of error. If we look at bWAR Shohei leads by .9. At what point does amazing offense overcome good offense and good defense? Shohei in 2022 went 34 HR with .870 OPS which is actually higher than what Lindor is right now and also went 2.33 ERA and lead the league in strikeouts/9 at 11.9. He went 4th in Cy Young and 2nd in MVP voting. So should Shohei have won MVP that year instead of Judge? Lots of people who gassed up Judge that year for hitting 62 which wasn't done in the AL before now flip the switch and say "50/50 ain't shit who cares if it's never been done before". So yeah, Lindor is having a amazing season for the Mets this year, there's no downplaying it but to dismiss a TJ recovering Shohei who's chasing a never been done in the MLB 50/50 and is also on track to break the DH WAR season record is detrimental to the sport.

Let me get this right ? So now we just giving MVPs to any SS with average stats and potential 30/30 moving forward. Huh? Ignoring a guy with triple crown potential and getting 50/50 that NEVER been done before. Okay make that make sense ??!

@@broman74dude95 we are on the same page that it’s the great debate of this year! Appreciate your argument and also appreciate the argument on the other side! It’s a tough one but we love the debate and thanks so much for diving in on our page Broman!

Don’t forget that stats criteria are based on traditional baseball player, which now ever, are specialized due to competition. To forcibly put Ohtani, who is a first full 2-way player, in to the stats, stacking him up against players such as Judge or any other top echelon player who spends their career honing their skills in their categories is absurd. Ohtani never has even half time for batting as Pitching requires more of his time, yes, he is foremost Pitcher, who happens to be able to hit! No Pitcher in IL (he is on IL as a Pitcher), playing with one 100% arm, batting is his side skill, learning to stole bases and do it better than majority of others (just because he happens to be able to do other things while rehabbing from Pitching) in its self an incredible story.

who is lindor?

Lindor is good SS and having a great second half of year. But People now just overvaluing his SS play, and under valuing Ohtani’s stats. Ohtani leading all key offensive stats by it seems a mile. This is typical narrative to not give MVP to deserving player like Ohtani. SMH

The Craziest comment… “he has .833 OPS, but that’s beside the point”. We are just making up stupid statements trying to take the MVP away from Ohtani. Lindor is not top 5 in any offense categories and will be the worse offenses stats for any potential MVP. SMH 🤦
