My 2013 Freightliner was at a dealership they quoted me 19k for a new one box labor included and said the part is on back order for a few months a least. I was going to just delete the whole system i was left no other choice.. Several hours of troubleshooting and sensor replacement before they make you buy a new1box. 12,500$ USD, plus several days downtime. Freightliner doesn't care if you starve. I have the exact same issue happening with my truck. Everything was fine. Once I change the DPF filter and changed it to knock sensor. That’s when this issue started so I’m going to try the bypass that you recommended. Where should I put outlet sensor?

Mr Amaya I’m currently working on a Freightliner 2018 . The codes are 521040, 521050, 511052, 520373 . Also low scr conversion efficiency low . The truck has the two amber lights on the def amber light blinking and it’s in a 5 mph derate . I replaced the dozer injector the def pump filter and the two box sensors and it still won’t get codes to become inactive after I perform regen . I even tried tricking the system by leaving the box sensor out side with the electrical connector connected and the scr efficiency to work 100% but it still won’t codes won’t go inactive . I also tried to go the speed sensor route but it’s not the same as the older models . Any advise will help thanks in advance

No need to buy a new sensor, just take out the existing outlet sensor and screw a plug in the hole. Then zip tie it out of the way.

+Jesus Camacho The only way the oil can access the CAC (air cooler) is by the turbo. The turbo can have a small leak and this can be caused by a bad crankcase filter or a bad turbo. Unless you have just a small amount of oil in the CAC that will be classified as normal in some cases.

Crankcase filter is plugging up. These help the crank case breath, when it begins to plug up its kind of suffocating the crankcase, So what happens is it begins to pull oil from anywhere, Valve seals ect ect, This oil ends up in your intake side through your air cooler. Long term it can cause soot build up on your dpf filter.

Bypass is you leave the old sensor installed on the hole is normally and disconnect the plug from the old sensor and get a new sensor and just connect the plug to the new one and hide the sensor and secure it that way don't go all over the place

+97935 c242 The software name is DDDL software and the adapter is a NEXIQ USB link. You can buy them online or at your local heavy duty tools supplier. My only recommendation will be to to buy a 2013 or older DDDL because this one doesn't require a year subscription.

I have a question, doesn't the NOx sensor need to reach a certain temperature for it to work? If it's not reaching that temp will it cause a derate? With the outlet sensors unplugged at either end neither of them will actually be sending the temperature, will this cause a problem? Thanks man!

That nox sensor on Detroit doesn't have a working temperature rates. It is the computer what determines when it needs to be activated so that is right you can easily manipulate the reading that way.

I think if CARB catches you, they will hand down a massive fine. But it works great on trucks that dont leave the county or state. It works great on DD13-15,16 EPA 10 2010-2012, GHG14 2013-2016,7 but dont know if it works with GHG17. You will get a fault code SPN 3057 FMI 2 SCR Outlet NOx Sensor - Error, but it just asks you to perform a Parked Regen. If it passes to release vehicle. The MIL will turn on (the little engine lamp) but wont cause a derate. Good luck guys, keep on truckin'.

The SCR by pass it is only for emissions monitors this has nothing to do with regen. If you do the by pass the regen process will be the same. Driving, parked or forced.

The check engine light comes on another engine light comes on both are yellow, the DEF yellow light blinks off and on and the region temperature with a puff of smoking I pull over, do a force region, it starts to region, the temperature in Puff smoke region blinks off and on., After about five minutes, the check engine light goes off the Blake and DEF light goes off The solid yellow engine light stays on, and the DPF temperature with a puff of smoke gauge stops blinking and stays on. At this time truck is still in region mode

Tried that on my 2011 truck with dd13, did not work. Inlet 245, outlet 0, conversion 0.02550 and 3226 (nox sensor) code showed up and other codes stayed. Note sure what I did wrong, but didn't work for me.

3226, need fmi number after spn to help you. but 3226 is either outlet nox sensor circuit fault or drifted. check for spread terminals on harness, verify 12v across pins 1 and 4 and 60 ohms across 2 and 3.

Outlet nox sensor. I tried deleting codes with computer, do regeneration etc. Codes stayed and truck stayed in limp mode. May be it would have worked if I did it before truck went in to limp mode, but no such luck for me. Ended up paying $3500 to tow it home and then 11k to replace one box 😢

+Richard Jolley You need the proper sensor in this case the SCR outlet NOx sensor, you cannot use the improper sensor because it won't fit in the plug. This by-pass will work with codes (scr efficiency low and improper DEF quality) Now with the scr outlet NOx sensor bypass the regen will be completed as it normally does but it might give you a warning light (improper scr outlet NOx sensor signal) but you will be able to drive the truck with no red light on your dashboard and as you normally drive your truck. (in some cases will be some power loss but nothing to worry about)

+Richard Jolley Ok, I am going to tell about the low NOx possible causes. - bad DEF quality - bad NOx sensor - bad DEF injector - DEF pressure low - DEF air pressure low(2011-2012 some 2013 DD15) - bad DEF metering valve(2011-12-some 13 DD15) - DEF leak - engine exhaust leak - engine consuming coolant - bad SCR filter box - bad DEF pump - etc,.. I suggest to perform a regen with the computer (DDDL software) to see how the SCR conversion efficiency is doing and then go and do a driving regen to see how the SCR conversion efficiency is doing when you are driving the truck compare the reading to determine a solution.

+James Riggs Some time removing the transmission speed sensor overrides the 5 MPH mode and you can drive the truck up to 50 MPH. By removing the speed sensor I mean: remove the sensor from the transmission and place it somewhere else (safe location) or disconnect the plug of the sensor and connect the plug to a different speed sensor (you need to buy it)

I was not able to delete fault code spn 3364 fmi 1 "DEF quality final warning" with the nexiq tool and Diagnostic link 8. The annual subscription is $500 and the tool = $750. I am still derated to 5 mph. I installed the new $500 (with core charge) NOX outlet sensor and now pass the parked regen. I think only a dealership software can remove the final warning level fault code.

@@mattabraham3549 I was able to clear all codes but the fmi level 1. Then I bypassed the speed sensor and was able to bobtail to my favorite Freightliner. By the time I drove the 600 miles the codes self cleared and I was able to reconnect the sensors. I kept telling the dealership that I believed that the issue was my engine or something before the 1-box sending in too much pollution and that is why I failed 70% efficiency on hill climbs or heavy loads or higher speeds. Freightliner said that I was crazy and that they were the experts. They said it was a bad 1-box . $10,000 later(new box) I only got 85% efficiency in their lot. "Your all good" Freightliner says. 50 miles after I left Freightliner my engine blew up. I have coolant leaking from a cracked cylinder sleeve into my oil. Engine needs rebuilding. There was nothing wrong with my 1-box. It was just doing it's job and reporting that there was high emissions due to excessive blow by. The dealership never pressurized my coolant system to check for leaks or loss of pressure.

Bad. -Amber light on all the time -Sometimes low power (10% of the time) Good -no more def blinking -regen process normal - emissions process normal - no modifications needed - easy to repair it correctly if it is necessary - normal engine operations
