A sublime performance by Yo-Yo Ma. But what helps to make this performance one of the greatest ever is the playing of Patricia Zander. I have never heard of her before but this is a phenomenal interpretation and performance of the piano part. I am sure Cesar Franck will smile in heaven every time this is played on KZbin

Indeed, Patricia Zander is what makes this Tokyo concert special. Funnily, she knew these pieces front and back thanks to playing with her husband, conductor Benjamin Zander (a cellist who studied with Cassado). Likely Yo-yo's interpretation is very closely aligned with that of the husband and wife duo.

"Everything too fast" - I can hardly believe my eyes. The performers take this piece at leaiurely pace. No hurry whatever. The last movement is supposed to be more lively but there is no rushing whatever.
