My father served mainly in Burma, My uncle was one of the youngest RAF pilots (and survived!) and I was part of the immediate post-war Baby Boom, but these commemorations always make me cry. Bless 'em all, the Long and the Short and the Tall.

Is there a booklet available online for the service? Who are the Anglican bishops?
@juliocesarrodriguez49196 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a full booklet on Internet. The boshops aren't Anglicans, but Catholics.

Why did the Anglican cleric recite the protestant version of the Lords Prayer....for thine is the Kingdom etc? They are in France, a catholic country, in a Catholic Cathedral presided over by the local Catholic Bishop...not happy!!!!
@annettewalter22737 ай бұрын
it was an Anglo French service. This was explained. England is predominantly a Protestant country France is predominantly a catholic country. A memorable mixture of both. The soldiers who died were not all catholic. The Anglican priest said we will recite in our Mother tongue the Lord’s Prayer. That’s what happened and it sounded wonderful.
@lawrenceburness96117 ай бұрын
A strange comment, Colin. Have you worked out that this is a combined French and English commemoration? I think that it would have been very carefully planned. Have you ever attended ecumenical services? It’s a little disrespectful to those who sacrificed and that is what is being remembered. Small minded but perhaps you would like a Catholic Protestant war? I’d like to honour those who gave their today for my tomorrow.
