The singer is the fantastic, unique, one-and-only Mario Frangoulis!! He sings in five languages, and sings anything from opera to jazz!

HimeBaezChan, I’m sorry but the poem is by Odysseus Elytis, Literature Nobel Prize in 1979 and not by Mikis Theodorakis.

Rosie: The Greek sea,the rivers...the music of the children playing in a thousand Islands. The olive trees making love with the Greek sun.The birds flying above the geography of your country...all of them will sing for you and for all of us the song they are singing right now.The song they've been singing since the beginning of times.

I have lisented many versions of these two songs and most of Greeks would say that Bithikotsis sings them best, but I really like Marios interpretation. His versions are more modern, and puts these timeless poems to 21 century. Does anyone know did Mario Frangoulis ever sing "Της Αγάπης Αίματα" and "Ανοίγω Το Στόμα Μου"?

I ahve seen Bitikotsis and Dalaras singing those songs. Always in a concert with Theodorakis. Bitikotsis is probably the best one, bu I am very surprised how good Frangoulis ist. I know him from his own concerts, now I would love to see him too singing Axion Esti. Wonderful.

No, unfortunately not. But he has a lot of CDs out, also in Italian (Passione, where he sings Mario Lanza songs), English (Music of The Night) and mixed ones like the Acropolis Concert, etc. A very good double CD with some excellent Greek songs is Feggari Erotevmeno.

@Chersonesos No it's definitely Swallow. Sparrow is a different kind of bird. This verse has a lot of symbolism. A swallow is a symbol of fidelity and hope. For Greeks it is a symbol of their long waited freedom. Now,I am no Greek, but I understand this clearly, because my people shares the same destiny, the same fate.

.It really breaks my hart to see Greece in such social problems. But I know, that the Greek nation that has spawned such art, culture and history, cannot be conquered by debt, and greed of international bankers. But Greeks have to do this alone, not with the help of "FRIENDS" from the EU, who got them in trouble in the first place. Like Odysseas Elytis said in verses that follows:
