Do you happen to know what the song is in reference to? I know generally it sounds like someone struggling to overcome an obstacle and failing, but Frank often writes with something very specific in mind.

Leahcim Olrac The movie 'The Swimmer' on which this is based starred Burt Lancaster... It's very haunting and you can project onto it many interpretations... The death of the American dream,. faded youth, loss, impotency... I highly recommend it. It hasn't aged that well - however that actually perfectly sums up the spirit of the movie... Think The Great Gatsby via swimming pools. Anyway 'The Swimmer" the movie was the inspiration for this song.

2000 seems like such a simpler time. Before 9/11 and the drawn out fruitless wars, but after we knew Y2K was a media hoax. Sure, I was still a 15 year old virgin but I was learning guitar and discovered the Pixies, Breeders, Frank Black and eventually this album. Nostalgia
