Great video, so many nuggets cheers! I'm also blown away by the Fireball 1070, have only downwind winged it but still a bit scared of its size to commit to a DW paddle but OMG as you say it's a whole new foiling experience so very excited for the larger sizes.

I didn’t have any problems paddling up the 1070. It requires lighter inputs, and this takes some getting used to if coming from a bigger platform foil. The larger sizes can handle a heavy footed rider no problem, and yet they bring all the good stuff to the table! 🤙😁🤙

I really enjoy your content. It's the only foiling channel I really come back to. Though I was starting to fatigue with some of the last fiji deflate downwinders. Been hanging out for the fireball/ new gear. Now I'm really excited to see the Frank board in action.

@@powis-tv8ln thanks for reaching out, I appreciate it and your thoughts. I’ve still got some footage from Fiji but will file it to give you a break 😎 I think I was feeling a bit stale with it too. The Frank board has been a blast, I also just shot across for the WA foil week in Perth. Hopefully I’ve got some good footage with Frank and the races 🤙🤙

@@downwind_drifterit was only one episode I skipped I think so you are doing well! Awsome, keen to see that new stuff! I was meaning to come visit the start/ finish lines with the Bubba (daddy duties) to soak up the vibe and see the gear but regrettably it all came a bit too hard

@@powis-tv8lnit was a good vibe but also over very fast! The week but also each race… it would have been cool to have had a group chat after the races. It was all very much child friendly too, besides the wind… I was impressed with Scarbough, it came across as a great little town 🤙🤙

Great content! thanx. Enjoyed watching it. As the previous commenter said - it is a bit too much deflate stuff now on your channel now. The deflate is great stuff but maybe you could mix it up with your "on couch" explanations and living room wisdom? Maybe a good format where you explain on dry land your "moves" on the water. Could also show for us the stuff you are using, testing (more close up, show to the camera...) E.g.t o see a 25/30 skinny vs. a 45/50 skinny next too each other is shocking :) (I just had this experience). Anyhow - really good stuff you are doing - these are just random ideas, keep the videos coming!

Thanks for reaching out, that all sounds like good ideas. I’ve got an idea that you have reminded to do, I’ll get on to it… it will enact a few of your ideas. Thanks for sharing 🤙🤙

Hello Jason, Did you transition from the 1401 to the FB 1070? The gap seems huge, is it doable? PS: I'm not downwinding yet, only flatstarting now. But I try to gather info's for when I will need a smaller foil, under the 1401. Cheers Régis

No I use a lot of other foils in between the 1401 and the 1070, it could be a possible quiver though but likely more suited to someone with a lot of experience to know when each foil would suit. My quiver in order of condition strength/size: 1401 1201 1180 1099v2 1070fb Thanks for the great question 🤙🤙

Thanks Jason. Some good nuggets. I am interested in your foil and board volume thoughts. As a 95kg newbie, currently on a 130L axis and png1300 v1, I am rethinking where I might go in terms of next board and its volume and foils, having assumed I would choose a board of slightly lower volume for my next purchase. Seems that you are moving towards a volume of around 120-125L for yourself at 82-ish kg, and obviously like the fireball 1070?. Perhaps I should be looking for a board of a similar volume but different shape. Definitely think the bigger fireballs once released will be something I am keen to try.

The bigger fireballs will likely be right up your alley. Come and try the KT crossing I have 8’4 120L 20” wide, it might be just the ticket. It is stable and is a lot more sporty than what you are on currently. And the 1070 fireball is awesome! I could be convinced to also use the 1000fb as it’s very user-friendly.

Hi Jason. Great content. One video idea is to help select a foil for beginners but with consideration for of waves. Ie lake conditions is open ocean. (Short period vs. Long period waves). Please keep that in mind when reviewing the fireballs. Last season, I started my DW journey with 1401 which is poorly matched to the 2-3 sec lake waves. 92kg. Currently thinking of PNG1301V2 or SF1270 (if it will exist). Now maybe a large FB?
@downwind_drifter7 күн бұрын
@ good ideas, thank you. Do you find the 1401 too slow for that environment? I personally like the 1401 in short period if I want a glider like experience with long board performance. I am a bit lighter though. I doubt a 1270 will come to market The 1300v2 is better ^ What about an 1180 spitfire? Too small?
@AbBu-do6fq7 күн бұрын
And how is PnG 1300 performing? I’ve did 15 sessions with my spitfire 1180 (on a flat wate and lightwind) but still never got on foil. Im 98 kgs (board 135 lt duotone dw sls)

@downwind_drifter Regarding the 1401, I think it is not a good beginner foiler in 10 to 14 foot spaced waves. Since the waves are so compact it was hard to reach takeoff speeds without pumping into the face of the 2nd or 3rd wave. Also it is hard to turn hard to run parallel to the kicker wave. Late in the season I added a +2 deg shim to the mast and I found takeoffs at lower speed but without flight experience I would quickly stall out, and I ran out season to progress. I wish I had time to try the rear foil shims as you talked about. Anyways, I know I need a foil for 92kg slow take off speeds and is better matched to carving on slow moving short spaced lake waves. I believe that once I develop flight control skills on a beginner foil that I will eventually find that I can grow into the efficient 1401 for long downwinds. Do you think the potential larger Fireballs would be suitable for learning in my conditions or should I go straight to the PNG1300? What about SF1180? I think the 1180 has the carving characteristics but has smaller surface area than the 1300 which means I would be challenged with needing higher takeoff speeds than the 1300. All I want is flight time. BTW - I have no problem flying the 1401 when tow foiling so it's all about learning to takeoff and pump Thanks for the dialog.
