Thanks for the translation! Regardless of the weakness of the material or difficulties in translating from one language to another, when you only speak one language, beggars can't be choosers. I appreciate the effort, and being able to understand what Mr Hvam is saying. Without the subtitles, we single language folks would not have a clue. Thanks again.

I've been watching Klovn/Klown on Hulu and it's hilarious. (I don't speak Danish at all - I can pick up a _bit_ from German & Icelandic, though most of it is rapid mumbling to me.) But even with subtitles it's fantastic. Painful/peinlich, and so good!

The worst thing is that the audio is out of sync with the video. I only watched 10 seconds.

@notsoseriousanymore I think to make english people grasp the colloquial connotations in humor you'd have to perform a cultural paradigm shift, which can't be done! These kind of translation videos are made by people who don't understand that language is far more than just the actual words. Puns and word plays such as "nossefeen" are good examples of this problem. The mere direct translation doesn't do anything for the context.

Translating colloquial standup into english is rather like trying to translate the lyrics for an unknown song in order to teach people the melody itself ... it cannot be done!

muslims don't cut their balls off, but their foreskin. so foreskin fairy would be a better translation.

it's really a shame that the subtitling ain't funny. doesn't help danish comedy much to get thru to the other side haha...

That is not that problem at all, this clip is funny. But you can't translate, comedy. You can't translate different tone of voice, because you won't know what is what in the sentence. Which actually really gives a kick to the joke, it's all about how you performe the joke, and you can't know that, when you just read some text. So you'll never be able to translate comedy. But saying this isn't funny and saying this humor is only for people who live in jutland is completely wrong.
@smik263014 жыл бұрын
this is only funny if you are danish tbh :)

its pretty crappy.. i know.. please, dont watch it!

Without considering audio issues and the problem of unidiomatic subtitles, this clip still sucks relatively hard. If you must translate something Danish, translate something which is actually funny and has relevance to people outside of Jutland.

@Chiromanic no kidding sherlock.. so if u dont like it.. gtfo.. everybody knows u can´t translate it 100% accurate.. but in a typical danish spirit, u would rather point out the faults than the effort of someone trying.. its pathetic..

this isn't the funniest danish comedy ever, a bit shame that only this part was translated..

This isnt great comedy. For me its ok cause I understand danish, but for ppl just reading the subtitles it must be worthless.

Frank Hvam isnt a good representative of danish comedy, he can be funny at times but he only has his status because of his television career.

Frank Hvam is the funniest comedian in danish history.
