Yea I have a lot of infps in my life apparently 7 out of about 15 of the people I regularly consort with are. I made them take the test because I was extremely curious about it. Love me some INFPs. They're a little crazy and usually lots of fun and goofy. Infps usually draw ISTP out of that hard crusty shell and ISTPs tend to ground infps because they're usually very flighty.

It brings me back when I was a kid when I did my mom's phone dirty, I put her phone in a glass of water because it was in a high temp while being charged. I think put it in a cold water would help reduce its temp- and it did! For the next few hour when my mom came back from the yard she just yelled at me, I was so confused why she so mad you know I helped fix her phone, it wasn't in a high temp anymore, she should be proud of me doing that. I'm laughing because I did the Myer Briggs for my kid (he's about 4, almost 5)... and the way he apologized to me... after mind you he hit me trying to get out of timeout. "Mommy, we both did some things we shouldn't have done..." (proceeds to list what I shouldn't have done and nothing about what he did wrong(... He goes around the house with a screwdriver and literally tightens everything... He'll tell me he's sad but doesn't want to talk about it, apparently is is good at and knows everything. @@Monbonnie types don't change; people grow. I, as an INFJ, may learn to use my External Sensing function, but I'll never be an ISFJ. They have gifts that come naturally to them that I don't have and vice versa. I work at growing and strengthening my sensing function by being present in the moment--something that comes easy to sensors--but it's hard for me. My natural inclination is to be in the future/in my head/totally disassociated from my body in la-la land.

@@suswil9086 The way I see it is that it is highly unlikely but not impossible and not something you force yourself to be. Drastic things happen every so often that could change you in a very drastic way. From the way you see things to the way you feel things and react to things. Though dominant traits may stay the same, I have seen people's types change over time. Particularly those that took the test as teens but grew to be completely different adults. As a teen you're often still exploring and figuring yourself out. Things you may think you know about yourself may not be you because of how impressionable young adults are. Perhaps rather than change, its more of an actual discovery of who you actually are and who the person people wanted you to be is.

i got typed as isfp and now istp. trying to figure out my type but the reason i get so confused is how people always portray or stereotype thinkers as cold or unemotional. after spending time with feelers i realized i lean more into logic and that i am less tuned into my emotions beacuse when i listen to their problems i always think about the easiest way to fix it and dont understand why is it so complicated for them. i dont know how to give full emotional support but i make them know im here and i do my best. overall that doesnt mean i dont get hurt or feel strongly. i let myself feel and dont try to hide them. i just process emotions differently. i hope this helps if youve been typed as xxTx because thinking people can be emotional, kind and loveable too. that also means being a feeler doesnt guarantee kindness. some of them can be selfish as they feel for themselves only like how some of them feel for the people.

It’s not about whether you’re in tune with your emotions or feel empathy. It’s about whether those emotions drive your decisions. You can be logical and emotional. They’re two separate constructs. Whether you make DECISIONS based on what you feel is right (values) rather than the likely outcome (utility) is where the F versus the T comes from. As you imply, people have selfish and non-selfish feelings and values. Just because two people are XXFX doesn’t mean they’ll make the same decisions. It means that their decisions are based on their internal value system, which might prioritise themselves over others, or not. The short answer is that the F types make decisions based on WHY, and the T types make decisions based on WHAT.

I'm ISTP and my dad was an ISTP too, for sure. I was a daddy's girl as a kid. My mom is ENFJ. Talk about someone frustrated and misunderstood! I was always very independent, non-emotional and good at analyzing and doing repairs in normal ISTP fashion. Now I take care of her in her old age, since she has dementia. We are still almost opposites, but made peace long ago. Except she still urges me often to capture a man so he can do things for me. That does not compute to me. To mom it's the most sensible of all possible plans. It makes me laugh, because after all these years, we still argue about that just like when I was a teenager.
