I think the Agnus Dei is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces.

One of the most compelling and, I think heart-felt, settings of the mass. I love singing it and this is a very fine rendition.

Very beautiful. Composed the year my own deceased Father was born in northern New York. In tribute to a Son lost too soon. My Gardner, Massachusetts Choir is giving this a go. I'm one of our GenX-Tenors.

In Agnus Dei, bar 3 and 4, the score in the video contains a c-sharp for choir 1, but on the recording they sing a c-natural (at 21:15) There should be other printings, containing here a c-natural. Does anyone know what's going on here? What is correct?

C Natural is the version I am familiar with

@@michaeljforde Recently, someone in our choir clarified the matter with the Bärenreiter publishing house. The manuscript contains a C sharp.

There's a wrong note in Gloria bar 52, first bass. Should be E, they sing Eb

It is an absolute gem of XX century choral music. Thanks a lot for this! To help the viewers reading, I need to report that the C sharp marked in bar 3 of the Agnus Dei is a typo, that C is natural (the one in bar 5 is correct).
@12TrapporАй бұрын
I don't know, there's been a revised edition which is supposedly more true to the original manuscript. It's possible that the score has this version, but the choir is singing from the "old" version. Personally I've always sang the old version except a few years ago, when the conductor instructed the choir to change to c sharp in the bar that you refer to.

Yes, I saw that too. Apparently the new critical version, which is reportedly more faithful to the composer's manuscript, has the C#, but i think it is a recent publication, so most of the recordings sing it natural. I think, since the score is there to better follow the music, the sung note should be written, with a note saying that reviewed version have it #

Pretty hard to follow Ralph's Mass in G Minor.

Execpt for this of course.

Much as I like that mass of Ralph's, and having sung in both, I would say that RVW gets blown out out of the water by this. It's an interesting comparison as both works were written at fairly much the same time, even if the Martin was hidden away in a drawer for many years.

Sanctus in Williams Mass in G Minor is amazing. Hard to find 20th Century Sacred Music that matches it. This doesn't equal it either.
