I just realized this song tells the story of some guy that dropped acid in Colorado and met his babymama. Then his regret of meeting her and wished he just smoked solo that night.
@yairasevilla74565 жыл бұрын
“White leaf on my boxers, green leaf turn to vapors for the low” He’s rolling a joint in his boxers “And that mean cheap, 'cause ain't shit free and I know it” I might sound crazy but I think he’s talking about a joint costing less than child support and you’ll see why “Even love ain't, 'cause this nut cost, that clinic killed my soul But you gotta hit the pussy raw though” He came inside the girl he met in Colorado raw, and went to a pregnancy clinic and said she was pregnant which killed his soul. “Now your baby momma ain't so vicious All she want is her picket fence And you protest and you picket sign But them courts won't side with you Won't let you fly solo” He wants to be left alone. He doesn’t want to keep fighting with his baby momma, but she’s making it hard for him cause she wants to have her all perfect family but he doesn’t. “I wanted that act right in Colorado that night I brought trees to blow through, but it's just me and no you Stayed up 'til my phone died, smoking big, rolling solo” Instead now he wanted to act right (no acid) in Colorado that night, blowing trees without her, enjoying his time solo. Thats from the second verse. The first verse talks about that night he connected with her.

This track came out the same time I was leaving the Gold Coast- and as a result makes me think of the few years I spent living there while moonlighting as an Uber driver. The "together/ alone", bittersweet feel of this entire track- with its' constant flashbacks to crazy nights past- sums up life there perfectly. You could spend every day, every week surrounded by the crowds amidst the noise, the action, the partying and caught up in the goings-on and the fun to be had...but you could be gone the next day and barely a person would notice. You could find yourself solo, and all the crazy times and people you met would exist only as vivid flashbacks because they all have their individual life stories to return to, quite possibly forever. In some ways there's a real sense of freedom to the realisation- but in other ways it's rather sobering...and somehow, Frank manages to capture all of these contrasting feelings in a simple, understated, 4 minute track... If you spend enough time on the GC, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about... For those of you from the States? Picture Las Vegas with Florida's beaches and you'll get what I mean...

Lyrics Hand me a towel I'm dirty dancing by myself Gone off tabs of that acid Form me a circle, watch my jagger Might lose my jacket and hit a solo One time We too loud in public then police turned down the function Now we outside and the timing's perfect Forgot to tell you, gotta tell you how much I vibe with you And we don't gotta be solo Now stay away from highways My eyes like them red lights Right now I prefer yellow Red-bone, so mellow Fuck 'round, be cutting you Think we were better off solo I got that act right in the Windy city that night No trees to blow through But blow me and I owe you Two grams when the sunrise Smoking good, rolling solo Solo, solo Solo, solo S-solo, solo S-solo, solo It's hell on Earth and the city's on fire Inhale, in hell there's heaven There's a bull and a matador dueling in the sky Inhale, in hell there's heaven Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Solo, solo Solo, solo I'm skipping showers and switching socks, sleeping good and long Bones feeling dense as fuck, wish a nigga would cross And catch a solo, on time White leaf on my boxers, green leaf turn to vapors for the low And that mean cheap, cause ain't shit free and I know it Even love ain't, cause it's enough cost, that clinic kill my soul But you gotta hit the pussy raw though Now your baby momma ain't so vicious, all she want is her Pickett fence And you protest and you picket sign, but them courts won't side with you Won't let you fly solo I wanted that act right in Colorado that night I brought trees to blow through, but it's just me and no you Stayed up 'til my phone died, smoking big, rolling solo It's hell on Earth and the city's on fire Inhale, in hell there's heaven There's a bull and a matador dueling in the sky Inhale, in hell there's heaven Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Solo, solo Solo, solo By myself Solo, solo Solo, solo

I have such nostalgia when it comes to Frank Ocean music. In 2012. Channel Orange was all my dad played in the mornings, I can already hear Super Rich Kids and smell the cigarette smoke. Just reminds me of good simple times. Shouts outs Frankie Ocean.

Same, man. His vocal delivery at that part, specifically when he sings the "on fire" part with the enchanting instrumentals in the background just legit makes my whole soul cleansed and blessed, I'm not gonna lie. That is absolutely so great that I'm being obssessed with it and having to get back to it to listen on repeat. Actually, I love this song so much but it's what I love the most on the song and I think this is the most beautifully produced track on the project. Truly wholesome. I candidly feel lucky that I discovered Frank, for real.
