Wilkes is a defensive minded head coach. Reich was the OC of the superbowl winning Eagles and the play caller for Wentz’s MVP campaign. Was hired by Indy and had a winning record and 2 playoff births. The Panthers gave up 2 1sts 2 2nds and a top 20 wide receiver to draft a QB. What would be the logic in keeping Wilkes employed to develop a QB which he has no history of?

I never understood why Steve Wilks was not picked to continue coaching the team after Matt Rule was fired. Last season the Panthers were actually winning some games. And the players were actually rallying around Wilks; we as Carolina fans could see it! I was actually excited about watching the Panthers games! No matter what strategy Tepper had in building a better team this season, seems to me the team was heading in the right direction with Wilks. Who cares if he had a defensive coach background! Wilks more than proved himself by at least turning last season around for the better. I mean the proof was in the pudding! And I know all the politics that's went on about hiring Frank Reich, but sometimes you just need to use common damn sense!

Last year Carolina’s defense was a lot better. Steve Wilks is now with the Niners and their defense is one of the best in the league and Carolina’s defense looks like hot trash but has the same roster as last year… Tepper got what he asked for

To be fair, the Niners defense has been top tier for a few years. But Carolina had an offensive identity under Wilkes and was probably a cornerback away from making the playoffs against the Bucs. I was at that game in Tampa and had to listen to these plank walking btches "fire the cannons".

To be fair...Carolina defense was good when Phil Snow was DC. Wilks was just a DB coach. Also...that 49ers defense been in the superbowl and nfc conference games in recent years....prior to Wilks. He inherited that squad.

Our defense being bad just might have something to do the crazy amount of injuries the defense has suffered this year but just maybe you know having star players out just might affect play of the defense overall just a little bit maybe.

Wow don't change stats to make Wilks look good. The deffense under snow was ranked 7. Wilks comes in fires snow and deffense ended 22nd. 49ers had number 1 rank d and Wilks has them at 7. And if that's not enough cle was ranked 3rd then Wilks took over and ended 12th. Wilks has never been a hc or dc more than a year without being fired

Tepper is by far the biggest issue we have. Dude is way too impatient and childish with the wanting to "win now" mentality. He doesn't want to take the time and build a solid foundation.

Should’ve kept Wilkes. We were playing for the division against Brady last year, and now can’t even win a game with Reich. There’s no reason to give him 3 years with a downfall like this. He should have never been hired. Fired from the Colts, and now we know why. He doesn’t have the right stuff. Fire him and offer Wilkes the job, and admit you screwed up. Fix your mistake and move on

Tepper got rid of coach Rivera that was a bad move. He hired Matt rhule, that was a bad move. Then David wilks come in as interim head coach and actually plays to our strengths and wins 6 games but then he didn’t re hire wilks that was a bad move and he then hired Frank reich who is proving to be a bad move also! Man we suck. Our owner sucks, our coach sucks. We got rid of our quarterback and mccaffrey last year and actually started winning games because coach wilks was on to something. We just straight up ass and it really ain’t Bryce young fault it’s our organization.

I feel like there first issue was moving up to get Bryce. Even if he turns it around. Idt bad teams should be moving up and down in the draft. I feel like as a new coach, you bring in the players you feel fit your scheme. Cut/trade guys who don’t. Just drafting best available. Like that defense with Jalen Carter and dj Moore is a betted team with Gardner minshew, Sam donald and others with a team friendly deal.

@@chicagodude8888 then how do you explain the firing mid season last year? As Indinapolis head coach his record was 40-33 or .547, which is slightly better than Wilks 4-4 or .500, as interim for the second half of the season. What makes this bad is that Riech coached Luck, Rivere, Wentz and Ryan which means his record should've well above 54%. Wilks inherited a poorly built team offensively and had them 1 game away from hosting a playoff game with only half a season to work with.

Tepper should have hired Steve Wilks in the first place they would have also been able to KEEP Moore, Foreman and Walker. As an order he was impatient to win and didn’t think things through. Foreman IS A POWER BACK and defenses hare a hr time defending him. A rebuild can be difficult. I would have loved to see Wilks as HC and Eric Bienemy as OC.Wilks has a defensive minded coach as well. Karma is REAL. WILKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIRED instead of a losing coach was hired…..WHY?

Wilks was the obvious choice. We brought in a great man, but a poor coach and manager. In the meantime, Tepper forced the pick of Bryce Young, by all accounts one of the better quarterbacks that Alabama had for a couple years. But Bryce is not NFL material. It's a sad time in Carolina for fans. And nothing is going to change until Tepper's pocketbook is affected.

We Panthers fans wanted Steve Wilks to get the HC job permanently after last year. We also did NOT want a Smurf at QB. We wanted CJ Stroud once they pulled that trade with the Bears. We could have easily went another year with DJ Moore and drafted one of the QBs in the incoming class of 2024. David Tepper sucks as an owner and he’s definitely not like Mr.Richardson. This dude will fail as an owner.

Life long Colts fan and I truly believe Frank Reich is a garbage head coach. Maybe a coordinator…but I’m just some guy. I can’t help to feel like his whole career is built off flash in the pan success. Playoff win when Jim Kelly got hurt. Coached Carson Wentz for the second he looked good, then he participated in destroying Luck while he made Reich look better than he is.

He bought in a coach to coach offense. Apparently he did not like running the ball, simple throws and playing field position and defense. This team has more coaches than you can shake a stick at. Tepper is a hedge fund guy, they win some they lose some, they blow things up. If he is short the Panthers he will make a move. They traded everything to move up and get Young and it left them bare. Now they will trade Burns to get a pick in the first round and package that with 2025 1st rounder to try and get a shot at Harrison at 2.
