Gotta admit, listening to this song did not make me think about Frank dressed as Elvis swaying his hips against a microphone with a murderous grin. I'll accept it though.

probably make tit of myself here or I'll show I get it. Anyone thats been stupidly in love with someone but its one sided knows you go through all sorts trying to be noticed more, only to be slapped down. Maybe not to the extent of dressing as Elvis but great symbolism. Fantastic song.

This was my exact thoughts on the video no matter how much you can do for someone you love sometimes they will never appreciate your efforts and never reciprocate your feelings.

Frank's output is incredible, and everything he's ever done is of the same fantastic quality. Thank you for not making us wait five plus years for a great album like a lot of other musicians out there. Seriously, The Clash and The Ramones are two of the only bands to do the same. It's a huge deal.

this is my absolute favorite song of the album, and in my opinion the video was great and original.

I was like "huh, Elvis?" but then her reaction to him being silly, in love, then the look on his face as he lay on the ground.... I get it. I've been there, not as Elvis, but I've been walked out on and had that look like "I was silly in love, now I'm lying here sad and alone"

I may be way off but I think the Elvis symbolism is awesome. Frank is a rock star whether he likes it or not and has some parallels with the king. I imagine it could be hard to intimately connect with someone that doesn't really understand what it's like to be a celebrity. He may be the king to the world but he feels like he's fallen or a failure to this other person. Maybe I'm way off.

I was sort of scratching my head when the video first began I was like "Oh, Elvis. Yeah he's made some references to him in other places, but what does that have to do with..." then the camera pans to the girl and it just clicked into place why Frank was doing this. Great job portraying something that everyone can relate to in a way that is uniquely you. I hope I can catch a live show one day. Going to be a bit hard to do that in Kansas, but I'll be on the lookout.

Verse 1] Wandering lonely through the snow streets of New York I stumbled on a thrift store that sold postcards by the yard I bought a mile and shipped them home so I could read Ten thousand ten-word tragedies, the lives these strangers lead To remind myself the things I need [Chorus 1] Cause I once wrote you love songs You never fell in love We used to fit like mittens, but never like gloves [Post-Chorus 1] You left me feeling like We'd never really been in love [Verse 2] Huddled home up in my place, in Holloway I wondered if you ever heard those songs I used to play I wrote the [?] gift for you and in return You gave a pair of hand knit mittens to keep my fingers warm So I could play more ignored love songs [Chorus 2] I once wrote you love songs You never fell in love We used to fit like mittens, but never like gloves And I once wrote you postcards You never wrote back Promised me you would and I'm still waiting for them [Post-Chorus 2] You left me feeling like We'd never really been in love Don't wanna fit like mittens I wanna fit like gloves Wanna fit like gloves [Outro] I once wrote you love songs You never fell in love We used to fit like mittens but never like gloves Never like gloves
Wouldve never thought, that i would ever relate to this song as much as I am right now. It is just as beatiful as it is sad, i love it..
@jonathanosters8 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell, the video adds another layer to the song; in the song he sings about how he wrote and sang all these love songs for her and she never really reciprocated. But in the video it appears that the songs he was writing were in fact very hokey and dumb, which more justifies her point of view. I may be way off base here, though. Love the song, video is a little surreal.

My boyfriend's interpretation of the video: "Guys, we need a video, what do we have?" - "Elvis suit, creepy lighting, a club, and one extra." - "OK, he dances, walks creepily over, and then gets slapped, because everyone of us wants to see that" - "That's a minute, tops!" - "Errrm, slomo!" - "Brilliant!" My interpretation: The slap is a metaphor for the emotional pain and disappointment deriving from unrequited or unequal love, leaving you lonely and hurt on the ground, however hard you try to make it work, if your personalities just don't fit... And maybe what you're into just seems creepy to the other person. :D

I laughed alot, because Frank you look ridiculous and amazing all at the same time and i love the dancing. Great video and when you see it all the way through, it makes sense with the song which is such a great song. Hope you had as much fun filming this as I had watching it. Apart from the end, that bit is sad.

I'd like to think the premise is that of a romantic comedy's climax " a man who is desperately trying to get back the love of his life after he cheated on her, got an idea from a movie to dress up as an elvis impersonator ( his girlfriend's favorite artist)and put on a show for her. As she realises that she is the only one invited to the show, his confidence gets the best of him while making this grand gesture and gets completely rejected.

Loved it and hated it, loved it: because it can literally tell the story of a whole relationship in a 4 minute video through a slowed down 30 second video. hated it: because I just kind of hoped to see more, something that would hit me directly in the feels as the song did when I first heard it, the video didn't really do that for me.
