Love the Franken-fax! I ended up experimenting with something similar to what you mention at the end - I removed the innards of a Moleskine XL softcover and put A5 6rings inside... so ended up with the soft front cover and even the closure from the back. Flexible, durable and has the advantages of rings. Loved it! Actually ended up as my binder system. Love these experiments you make - lovely channel!

This is so fun! Japanese brand Ashford actually has something of a similar idea, called the Refill Pad, but it's quite a plastic-y thing (some of them even have a plastic ring mechanism). This one definitely has a much sleeker, more "grown-up" look. I would prefer having some sort of closure, but there are plenty of options for that - a Midori book band would be quite nice, or one of their clasps. There are page lifters with built-in elastic closures as well (Plotter and a few others make them), but they would take up ring space. Tons of options, there's bound to be something for everyone.

A Midori style book band sounds perfect. Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it.

Could not agree more. Rhodia Goalbook is my all time favourite notebook with best paper hands down. I like your experimental notebook and it would be lovely to have their covers made by either Rhodia or Moleskine.. Closest to this minimalist aproach are indeed the Plotters.

Thank you for your feedback. I certainly think that there is a “half way house”, where many of us would like a Moleskine or similar, but want the advantage of repositionable pages. Thanks once again.

I like the Leuchtturm or Rhodia notebooks, but not the Moleskine paper quite so much. Thing is Rhodia and Leuchtturm come in loads of sizes. I thought about using the elastic, before you mentioned it. I think the concept is so flexible that there are endless possibilities.

I haven't tried any Leuchtturm paper, but I'm a big fan of the Clairefontaine paper found in Rhodia notebooks. Like you, I'm not a fan of Moleskine paper, but I do like the slightly narrower form factor of their A5 model, which more easily fits in a jacket pocket. Yes indeed; there are endless possibilities with this concept, and I'm very happy to share my experiments with everyone. Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it.

Thank you. Will personal size refills fit?
@Flatability Жыл бұрын
Yes. In fact it is designed to fit personal size. I just prefer a slightly larger page, because I don’t use tabs.

2 last questions I promise! lol. what size is the back board and the Rhodia front cover? Which Rhodia notebook is it from? BTW love your podcast. I watch almost daily!
@Flatability Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. The Mulberry back board measures 178x 103mm. The front cover measures 178x100mm. I made the front cover from an A5 Rhodia “dot notebook”. Note that the inserts are the same size as the front cover, so slightly larger than personal size.

How did you attach the rings to backing board? Were the rings already attached? Where do you get the backing board? Thank you! I want one!
@Flatability Жыл бұрын
The rings were already attached to the board, which came as part of an English made Mulberry wallet. A similar arrangement can be found on the Filofax “Saffiano compact zip”, and the “Maulden compact zip” models.
