This was such a lovely vlog! A Botanical Daughter sounds amazing! When you were reading and discussing the bit about having a place, I teared up like nobody’s business. Just beautiful! I’m so sorry The Modern Prometheus didn’t work for you, but I’m glad you found other books that spoke volumes during this project. I always get so much out of your videos. You’re wonderful! 🖤🖤🖤

@DarkVioletDreams I teared up about having a place of safety and acceptance, too. The way that Noah Medlock wrote that passage was absolutely beautiful and just hit me right in the heart. Thank you so much for watching.

I love that you’re always authentic and real. 🖤 I’ve had The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein on my shelf for a couple of years. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to read it. I got A Botanical Daughter recently and can’t wait to read it! It sounds so good! So exciting that you’re getting new bookshelves! Woohoo! I enjoyed this vlog. I love all things Frankenstein themed.

This vlog brought me so much joy! I watched while getting ready for the day today. I cannot relate enough to your words regarding the academic burnout you’re feeling😞😫 I can’t remember the last history book I read after finishing my masters in US History. there’s been a few spooky non-fiction here or there but I just can’t summon the strength to finish a monograph. You’re not alone! And I am so sad I didn’t finish Botanical Daughter (I found it to be way too meandering for me.) But I was thinking of restarting it when the audio becomes available at some point after hearing your positive review of it! And I loved your words on Elizabeth Frankenstein - you made me appreciate it more than when I immediately had finished it!

@happyhauntslibrary The academic burnout is such a killer of joy. I still can't shake the feeling that I *should* be working on something, making "better" use of my time, forming a thesis about everything I read, etc. It's a constant struggle. I definitely took my time with A Botanical Daughter. It was not a book I could consume quickly. The audiobook would be a great option. I'm so glad I stuck it out with The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. I feel like it's a book that will stick with me. Thank you so much for watching!

@@literarylove123 I feel those exact same thoughts ugh. We just need to remind ourselves that urgency is a myth and hopefully in time our brains relax. I rarely hear people talking about post-grad burnout so thank you for giving me this space!

I don't know if we talked about it but I read Frankenstein for the first time a year or two ago and I didn't like it. At all. But I was talking to a friend of mine about it and he mentioned that it could be because Frankenstein and Frankenstein's Monster are pop culture icons and were long before the idea of pop culture was even a thing. And because my marker for the story and the characters are so deeply rooted in the movie from 1931, I was left disappointed. I fully accept now that that is a ME problem and not a Mary Shelley problem and I should probably give it a fair chance and re read it.
