If you are looking for a 12, try screw head types, with a little bit of research you will find more than enough especially if you delve into security screws companies don’t want you to undo. With the different head types there are plenty to choose from.😁 I bought a set of screw bits once to undo most of them and there were way more than 12 types. Also if you made 6 of the pentagons out of resin, would it be possible to insert an LED light to make a Christmas ornament. All the best to ya😁😁

You could do the 12 star signs, maybe a walnut background with maple stars. No need to make them look realistic just have the actual star formations... With the triangles, it would be a pain but could you do a small back cut on each then finish the cut normally? So set it up pull the fence towards you, cut half an inch, then push it out of the blade, remove the workpiece, move the sled back, put the workpiece back on then finish the cut like normal? Like I said would be a pain but it should stop chipout.

The triangle tip problem might be a case of wanting to have your cake and eat it, too. Two triangle edges from one cut is a bit of an ideal. As we all know, wood-cutting operations typically assume a stationary part and a cut-off part. The latter is cast aside as a price paid to the improved quality of the former. It's no fun to admit this, but it's probably the case that a 'perfect' triangle requires a dedicated cut made for each perfect edge. One way or another, the tablesaw blade is going to vibrate & flex enough to knock out a tiny 60° tip from somewhere. Even IF both parts were secured, cyclical error is going to occasionally favor one of those fragile areas. If I were looking for a repeatably 'perfect' triangle procedure, I might try to accept that I'll have to push my error off to one side, and try using two jigs. Perhaps the first would establish one triangle's finished edge (as the featured sled has already done here), and then the second jig would be for making a refining cut to the cut-off. That said, my most perfect equilateral triangle patterns have also been realized by wood filler. Only the finished objects and I know the secret. Unless you share the fact with an audience, of course: then we all know how _we'd_ do it 'better.' The twelve things? Monkeys-no question. 12 Monkeys.
@frankmakes2 жыл бұрын
I think you are probably right about the triangle tips. That is why I was heading in the direction of celebrating the wood filler so much that it becomes an inlay. I like the 12 monkeys idea

There's a way to make spherical dice that could be possible with your techniques (and CNC). You carve cups into the back of each pentagon, and making it so everything outside the cups is really smooth high points, and then you include a heavy ball. Once assembled the only place the ball can come to rest is in a cup, and whichever cup it rests in will be pulled to the bottom. This could be a really interesting jumbo yardgame die, but it would also stop the sphere from rolling so you could display it without anything external to keep it still. I'm sure the trick is finding a ball with the right weight, too heavy and it'll break itself apart, not heavy enough and it won't be able to roll the ball.
