Je ne savais pas que ça pouvait encore exister ces jeunes gens qui dansent sur du Jazz. C'est merveilleux!

Well done, Harlem Hot Shots, and Alain! (not to mention Chester Whitmore and crew and the band...) That was such a great show, and these younger dancers, who embody the spirit as well as the athleticism and talent of the old-time Lindy Hoppers, are a joy to behold!

Hey Michael Gamble, I've asked the band to provide me with a list, and will add the names of the musicians in the video description as soon as I get them :)

The trend in Lindy these days, compared with the 1940s, seems to be to move at breakneck pace. Maybe that's to take the dance to another level in skill. Maybe people want to try something more challenging. There is no doubt the Harlem Hotshots, for example, have great athletic and acrobatic skill. But compared to the Lindy of old, a lot of musicality and rhythmic timing is given up. The dance in this new style looks more like a frenzied athletic competition than a social event with romantic overtones; which is what I believe dancing is better suited for.

It just depends on what you're going for. I agree that a slower tempo allows for more style and finesse. Faster tempos allow for "air steps" and sheer athleticism. Good dancing gets noticed regardless :-)

webdiva369 I see what you mean about Hellzapoppin. I guess the difference I've noticed is actually between performance artists and social dancers.

Thomas, I hear you, and I wonder if you are naming the difference between social dancing, vs competition, and performance, the latter two being high-energy and choreographed. They are two quite different dances, and as a social dancing follower, I know that people who can perform or compete at a high level are not always great social dancers. Being able to do all three is rare, I think (tho I had a couple of dances with Thomas Blacharz at F100 that demonstrated that he, for one, can do all three big time!!)

I have danced with all of these socially and can personally verify their excellence also in that respect
@pingpong48115 жыл бұрын
@@LuXunish That argument always only comes from "only social dancers". I do not know why, but seems like they try to up their status, like a pride-thing:"they are good in comps and shows, but not at the social dance floor". I disagree with that notion: comp dancers and show dancers usually have a much better understanding of lead-follow connection principles, body stability and balance even at high speeds thru hard and long training.
