Not rigidly segregated, I’m happy she said this! The interviewer wanted to exaggerate the point! Wichita Kansas was not all rigid, people of all races rode in the same buses and street cars ! What an honest woman

Im not sure if you are confused or not but Ms. Freeman lived in Danville, Va. not Wichita, Kansas. You are correct about Ms. Freeman being an honest woman but i dont think you heard correctly: People of different races rode the same bus but the blacks had to ride in the back so, as Ms. Freeman "honestly" stated, they werent gonna ride on the back of the bus so they walked. Another honest statement she made was that the blacks werent going to spend money where they werent "respected." The interviewer didnt exaggerate by any means, Ms. Freeman simply stated how things were in a eloquent, civil way which is how the majority of blacks dealt with "all of the evils of that time"...her words, not mine or the interviewer.
