Had Holly as a passenger in my taxi in Dublin last year - so nice and natural.

Queen were used to being held off the No.1 spot. Killer Queen by David Essex, Somebody To Love by Showaddywaddy and We Are The Champions by Paul McCartney & Wings.

Their Born to Run cover is the greatest yet, far better than The Boss’ version.

agree. i didn’t know the original when FGTH did it and since then Bruce’s own version doesn’t have the energy.

Not heard it. Being a minor fan of 'The Boss' I should give it a listen.

Holly Johnson an absolute legend,I was a teenager when Frankie goes to Hollywood took over music 🎵 in the U.K and elsewhere. I remember waiting on the Two Tribes video to drop back in the day,the anticipation was every bit as big as the Thriller video. Brilliant times and there’s a Welcome to the pleasure dome remixes 🤜🎵🤛

FGTH are in some ways a mystery considering how great as well as successful they were as a band and in this money driven world for them to suddenly break up at the top of their game, and to stay broken up is quite remarkable. To walk away from success is one thing but the level of quality of their music doesn't always happen and seems to have been overlooked, it's a shame they didn't have a longer career. Warriors of the wasteland!
@MatthewMaloney-fj4zz2 ай бұрын
I didn't know they broke up, but I did think it was odd how quickly they disappeared after being so big in 1984.

Met him a few times over the years, sucha nice guy! However when he said in the 80's it was all synths and no guitar bands like in the 60's/70's till it was retro in the 90's well you still had the likes of-The Rolling Stones, Paul M, Iron Maiden, Big Country, U2, Echo + the Bunnymen, The Smiths, The Cult, The Cure, etc that had major guitar sounds in them! He is havng memory problems!

Dexter Fletcher should make a FGTH biopic completing Bohemian Rhapsody & Rocketman as a loose trilogy

The split from the band must have been really bad , I would of thought with it being the 40th anniversary of welcome to the pleasure dome and the reunion of all original members would have been a lucrative opportunity for all concerned, but obviously not 😢
@luxdico2 ай бұрын
such a shame tthat they just couldn't avoid the split with Trevor Horn ... many more hits would have followed. But then again, what a nice self destruction.

Queen one of my all time bands and saw them live four times with Freddie and John. But FGTH had some big hits and sales. I was heavily into Queen, and harder rock at the time, but really loved FGTH when they appeared on the scene because they sounded so different from all the other stuff in the 'pop' charts and genre.
@Sharkwhisperer2 ай бұрын
That is not fair, they had other songs besides relax; two tribes, power of love, rage hard, welcome to the pleasure dome. Everybody knows queen is much bigger so no need to compare them. Compare queen to the kinks or prince or the who.

I met Freddie inside a badgers pocket during our trip to a Lilliputian award ceremony. He got a peanut stuck up his nose so I binned him off and went with Judi Dench.
