one of these days I cooked a legit good meal out of a clove of garlic, half a bell pepper, one tablespoon of butter half an onion, one thin slice of mozzarela, an egg and some ketchup and a package of instant noodles. I feel proud of myself.

Looks wonderful, but, the question, "who puts skirt steak in the fridge and forgets it?" was right on point. Especially in that quantity. The sauce was a winner though. Not much of a challenge for Frankie.

"who puts skirt steak in a fridge and forgets it?" is a valid question. But add a freezer to that equation and not that outlandish any more. My late grandfather was a hunter and since a boar or a deer is way to much to eat in one sitting most of his catch would be put in freezer for later consumption - or to be given away to friends and family. I can imagine him (or rather my grandma) going through that freezer, pretty much like Frankie went through that fridge.

I quite literally do this all the time. Yesterday there was a bunch of leftover cooked chicken, so I made a quick peanut sauce out of pantry items (peanut butter, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, ginger). Learn how to make some basic sauces and leftovers can be amazing.

Try making something with moldy cheese, a dead celery, butter, some leftover cake, and for condiments... BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard, and Italian dressing. That's what I have in my fridge. If you can make something out of that, then that would be a real challenge. your fridge looks rich compared to mine at least your veggies look fresh😆

We call this seat-of-the-pants cooking in my house. If you read (and cook) enough recipes, you begin to develop a sense for what flavors go together, what ingredients can be swapped out for other ones, etc.

I do this all the time. I try really hard not to waste food. Made a really nice egg salad the other day purely from stuff I had to use up. Used an avocado dip instead of mayo and olives and red onion for a kick. Chucked some frozen green beans in too. Was pretty impressed with myself!

I'd have made Chinese, personally. No peppers or tomato sauce, I'd have used those mushrooms and soy sauce and stir fried instead, maybe use some rice or noodles with them.
