While I was familiar with FGTH 's other hits, I had not heard this one till a few days before Christmas 2022, while listening to a UK Christmas music program. I was just stunned with the vocals, lyrics and powerful meaning of the song!!! As we are nearing Easter 2023, I am STILL listening to "The Power Of Love" and it still has the same gripping effect on me as when I first heard it. MAKE LOVE YOUR GOAL!!! 💗

Glad you love this song.... It's my all time favourite Christmas song. Brings tears to my eyes 🥲 and gives me goosebumps. Funny you mentioned being an American, never heard of it... Being Dutch we have lots of foreign hits in our chart: Italian, Spanish, German, English et cetera.... When I was in the USA for the first time, an American friend drove me around. When I sung „Country road, take me home...." from John Denver, she looked at me suprised and asked „Do you know this song?" Yes ofcourse!? We follow the American music industry too 😅

US here, I've loved this song since the 80's. It's not well known, but it did have a pretty sporty run on MTV, back when they played videos. It's stunning.

@@Haroekoe The song never made the Billboard Hot 100 (US main music chart) which was odd given FGTH's MTV airplay. I had heard of the title but never heard the song back then.

@@Haroekoe But it is not a Christmas song.

@@janpcs beauty is in the eye of the beholder. During Christmas Imagine of John Lennon is more often played, also Driving Home For Christmas of Chris Rea. I see the Power of Love as a Christmas message therefore a Christmas song. On top of that, the videoclip shows the Christmas story. On the other hand, I was raised by a religious mother, I was baptised, but I am far from religious myself. But „Make Love Your Goal" is something that suits every day, every religion

So many touching comments for this song, I actually came close to tears reading some of them. Isn’t that a beautiful thing? this song and it’s message still resonates and reaches out globally after all these years. An evergreen Christmas song in my house and a Desert Island Disc. Hope everyone here had a great Christmas

...no clue of the movie reference. 80's kid here. ❤ ..slow dancing at the High School. Not having a clue about life. Looking into the eyes of a girl/guy you thought you loved and the first awkward kiss. Damn. Still have that pain..

My dad used to tuck us in at night and before closing the door say to us : “I’ll protect you from the hooded claw, keep the vampires from your door” and it always brings back a happy childhood memory hearing this song and knowing that’s where he got the phrase from.

Frightening. Why would you even tell a kid these things exist?! I used to get story time, Enid Blyton’s Faraway Tree was my favourite. Always used to fall asleep to that, full of fantasy and imagination, travelling on a mystical plain. Certainly didn’t get fear instilled at me from an early age! 😂 Funny how you see that as a good thing. ✌🏽
@rhino2692 жыл бұрын
@@DanFernandesBenficaSaint it’s no different to saying night night don’t let the dogs/bugs bite to a child. It was obviously meant as a term of endearment and a reference to the song haha. Not intended to frighten. In fact I was comforted by it. He was saying he’d protect us from the hooded claw and the vampires.

The accompanying video is definitely Christmas related but the song itself doesn’t sound like a Christmas song, but a love song. Perhaps it was initially released around Christmas? This is my first time hearing it, it’s beautiful.

@@misscleo378 The song was released in november 1984 in the UK. In topped the charts in December but after one week it lost this position to "Do they know it's Christmas"?" a far lesser song in my opinion.
