It’s to show us how deep the darkness can go. It’s showing us how different we are than them. We aren’t being punished as much as renewing our will, to live a life of our choosing. I know this is no conciliation, but we need to learn some things too. Defense, demanding more ( even by demanding the same in our way of life) and knowing there are worse out there just waiting to abuse others. Do we really want the people who have betrayed us in our lives anymore? It’s not fair, but apparently it’s necessary. Besides that, it presents a choice for us.
