For those who are interested. I’ll be testing this out with brisket, pork butt, ribs and beef ribs. I’ll also be doing a comparison between this pit, the old country brazos, and a backyard size FatStack (custom) smoker. Let me know if you have any other suggestions!

i own pit #55... got it in early november. my unboxing was a little different than yours on account of me not being able to find the power drill and being too impatient to wait for my 13 year old son to get home from school to tell me what he did with it. so i unscrewed every single screw by hand... (my son made it up to me by building me a franklin table out of the leftover box parts) enjoy it! the airflow is gonna blow you away!!!

Ok a couple of questions. There doesn't seem to be a way to control; the heat? No cap for the Stack, No way to block the air through the off set? How do you put out the fire once the cook is done? The shelf seems to take up a lot of room in the main chamber? looking forward to the next video for the answers to these and many more questions.

Hey Jeremy ... loved the unboxing !!! I did notice something, the handle has been installed the wrong way around. If I look at Aarons website the handle faces the other way which means that the weight of the handle would not open the door, but keep it shut.

Hey you’re right! I think you are the only person who caught. It has since been fixed, I noticed how hot the handle got when doing the burn-in and realized it must go the other way around.

I’m actually building my own smoker and studying every detail I can get my hands on. I live in Australia and a franklins BBQ pit would set me back around 6 to 7k . Loved the latest post on the ribs, it’s interesting how he has made the water pan tray to be bimetallic which in turn causes the air to swirl around the chamber.

Hey Jeremy, idk if you know but in Franklins book the Meat Smoking Manefesto he says they clean out the pits once a week and re season it with the tallow they get from the briskets. So you are in fact right about the pit coming pre seasoned with tallow

Looking forward to the comparison. As an austinite who does his own bbq on a custom offset, I’m always interested to see other smokers tested. Honestly I’m more interested in seeing some decent sub $1000k stuff hit the market, but I’m pretty sure those times are long gone.

looks good but as a pit smoker builder myself I always try to make things much easier and workable for clients and when it comes to BBQ and moving around and what I mean by that is making sure i add a pulling handle and a table top but its a good looking smoker though

I had a all steel smoker “The Good One” a few years back that no matter how well seasoned it was, turned into a rust bucket. Especially on the inside. The racks completely rusted out. I did leave it outdoors, but it was covered, and that didn’t help. How do you protect these all steel smokers so that they last many years? Mine lasted maybe three. ☹️ it was even painted on the outside with high temp engine paint.

I have two Good One smokers and both have serious rust issues. I've had one for almost five years and the other one for four years and both were covered with Good One covers under a covered and sided carport.

It looks like Franklin's pit is made by Mill Scale. I saw the same pit in another video and it's a spot on match! 4k price tag too!!!

I know this is kinda off topic, but the blqck glives he has, i have read they are only resistant up to 150°c, is that true, do they desintegrate/burn if hotter? I would consider putting them on top of regular cotton gloves so they dont get dirty.

Can you estimate much wood does the Franklin BBQ burns per hour at 275F if roughly 60F outside? By the lbs would be best but understand that is difficult since you have access to plenty of smoking wood.

Nice video. I got the offer to buy last month and only have two more days to decide before the offer expires. The price has went up about $500 since they first offered it for sale so that plays a part in my decision. I probably won't buy it just because I have a M1 that can burn wood and it does a great job so I doubt the Franklin pit will do it any better.

@@00Bagged I took delivery on my 24x48 on 4/23/21. My wait is finally over, now I can start enjoying my new pit. I had no reservations about the quality of the product. I would do it all over again if I had to. I looked at another builder for a similar pit but, unfortunately things didn’t work out. Sometimes you have to wait a while to get the things that you really want. I believe this pit will elevate my skills and BBQ to the next level. To me, in the long run, I think I have made the right decision.

Airflow has to be controlled 100% by the fire size and the door to the firebox
