I love to see a planner used as a planner and not as a great big sticker book.

Same!!! It proves that a lot of people are sick of the “stickers and deco and perfectly color coordinated” planner videos, and want to see real, messy, actual PLANNING.

You did a great job on this video. I've been watching a lot of planner videos and most are so tedious and disorganized and it looks like the person is just setting it up, not actually USING it. Thank you for showing that it can be done well! You gave me some great ideas!

As one who is retired and getting older (and forgetful) I'm considering adopting a planner. Watching your video reminds me that using a planner is not so much a process off learning a static system but rather using the planner as a dynamic tool to become more organized on my terms. That makes the planner something rewarding and fun rather than a chore. Thanks for your video and inspiration Sharon.

Interesting video. My self I went from Franklin Classic 2PPD to Franklin Compact 2PPD. Now I am think of again visiting the Classic with 1PPD. Both are excellent, one must decide the size needed. FYI: Always mount your camera, camera movement is unnerving and difficult watching. Think about watching a TV show with the camera continually moving about; not good. A phone table top tripod is less than $10.00, a full tripod holding a cellphone can cost less than $30, thus allowing you to use both hands..

I still love Franklin planners... one thing I have started to do is buy the fun cheaper colorful binders that they sell everywhere else and just re-punch my Franklin pages with the 6-hole punch so that they fit in there. Then I can switch out the pages and use different binders. Franklin binders are so expensive and I think sometimes switching to a fresh binder can help us when we start to feel like we want a new setup. :)

You are the only person who is actually USING a planner, not just showing blank pages! I use printables from philofaxy blog, I don't use FC or filofax inserts because I moved out rom US and there are no such things in the stores here, in Russia

Sharon, I stumbled across your video as I was watching videos of folks who bullet journal in an A5 size planner. I laughed when you said that you carry separate bag for your planner. I do the same! Saw the photo of your mom and realized that I knew from high school and St. Paul's. Great job on your video, Kathryn Jancovich Wilson
@skorkes8 жыл бұрын
+Kathryn Wilson Oh wow! What a small world! I hope you and your family are well! I have left the planner world behind and am now getting into bullet journaling myself. So fun to have run into someone I know who has a similar interest. The folks in my circle don't get it. :)

Cool planning and organization. I hope all went well with your transitioning into the personal size. I found your “to read/book list” section interesting :) I keep a separate notebook to organize my current reads, observations, and notes, but list all “to read” and other categories of reading on Goodreads. GR makes for a wonderful virtual catalog of the personal library. Your “values” section is brilliant! Talk about keeping oneself grounded! :)) I should like to adopt it if you don’t mind! ~~Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it.

I'm going through the same transition.I have not found the same Franklin quality in the market today.I came across Filofax-purchased a compact size.Made a few changes on how track,take notes,and organize.I use FF Personal- for scheduling, simple reminders and notes. I use the following for Tracking, detail journaling and lists: MS One Note-there are search features and syncs to my phone,Gmail Calendar for tracking and syncs to phone.This transition is still in process for me, good luck!

Interesting set up. Do you still use a day planner now in 2019? I started using Franklin planners in the early 90's and used them on and off with PDAs and than t smart phones, but recently gone back to my planner. It's hard to get use to carrying around a big planner again, but find I am just more productive with it than with smart phone apps. Thanks for sharing :)

They only fit certain Filofaxes. Others they will stick out the side. FC Compact inserts are 1/2” wider than Filofax personal size inserts.

Loved this video. Mostly because I have some of the same issues. I can't buy a Filo here in Denmark, can only get inserts online etc - and the rings are SO small. My Franklin are an antique i bordeaux raw leather with 1,75 inch rings (I kid you not). Its a compact and therefore not bulky to look at but I can't zip it up without straining the zipper to the breaking point. And that zipper have saved many a coin, band aid, business card, post it etc.
@wirinaholstein407610 жыл бұрын
This time I "Only" paid 124 US Dollars to buy it and convince the seller to ship to Denmark. It's just crazy. And due to the living expenses in my country (rent, food, gas, water, clothes) most of us don't have much money in our hands even though salaries are high. So my binder (which I also use for expense tracking and budgeting) is my only splurge and VERY un-economical thought of to have. Yes, I often laugh at myself ... - so you may too :-D

spotted the Monumental Life... used to market their products exclusively... back in the day... nice points/ tips... I personally recommend "cutting " the built in pen holder in half... you get two additional holders.. although your solution is indeed good. BUT how do you write on the pages that would normally be on the left when the planner is open?

Hi, I use both my big binder and personal, but the big binder stays on my desk/ I plan and organise on it and then I use my personal binder which fits into my shoulder handbag to stick in the post it notes, pages, section from the big organiser for what I need for the day/week from my big organiser. eg travel reference numbers to collect my tickets, address of places I need to go, shoping, quick notes and i then update my big organiser. I keep a seperate organiser for my financial stuf.

(Continue) If I need to put A5 sheet into personal Filo, I fold it in half (and punch it, if I want). Currently I'm creating my own planner (my own system) because I want to track my goals and project management and there is no planner that allowed to do it, also I want to include certain stuff that I haven't seen anywhere else in paper planners. Maybe I put it for everyone else to see and use

I'm trying to convince myself that one of these things are useful and/or superior to a computer/ipad/iphone. How do any of these paper organizers perform when you have over 2,000 contacts? Do you manage them on the computer and then print them out and punch holes, etc.?

I am like you - I like to write a lot. What kind of novel do you write? I enjoyed watching your video. I solved the problem with liking to write on A5 paper and having personal size planner like that; Im carring personal size planner (as Filofax) with me with calrndars, contacts, goals, projects etc., and punched A5 paper (20 sheetes or so), where I write whatever I need to. I'm using A5 sheets to mind map books that I'm reading, my thoughts, journaling, project planning in small steps, etc,

I stored my used FC inserts in the FC archive binders. Filofax doesn't offer such a thing that I am aware of, so right now I am just clipping them together with a large binder clip and storing them in a box. Clearly I need to find a better way to do that! :)

Are the Franklin organisers compatible with Filofax inserts? I've been thinking of buying an A5 size, but the Filofaxes are so expensive.
@wirinaholstein407610 жыл бұрын
The Franklin can also only be found online, and are much harder to come by and offer very limited insert choices. And printables are not possible as its not possible to set up the size for print, in my (or any) printer - weird danish measurements. BUT the rings, the rings. They are so huge and there is nothing I can exclude that I don't need to have in my binder. Everything seems important for me to stay alive through the day. Last year I tracked down the blooms day-on-two-pages calendar which have always been my favorite.

calisongbird I'm Scandinavian. I think you didn't read my whole comment. Which I dont blame you. It was long. But well, you're right that Ebay and Amazon are places to find it but actually even if you go on a UK based Amazon/Ebay site (the only European sites which will work for thi search) or set your search to find only matches within Europe, its almost impossible to find any Franklin Covey product sellers who are willing to ship to Scandinavia - even if they state they ship Internationally. Might be hard to imagine but trust me, its very real for us up here. Even the Franklin Covey European site and UK site (they have 2 sites other than the American) will not ship most products to Scandinavia and therefore the variety in lets say planner binders, are currently on their sites 5 different planner binders. And 3 different calendar refills. Only 2 of them come in more sizes than just compact size. So well, it isn't as easy as it seems and the 2 times I managed to persuade FC online European store to ship some different refills to me, I had to pick up the package 400 km from my home. They did not ship to the actual destinations inland, but only to the central import tax office. We have one of those. We're a population of 5 mill people in total. So yeah, Im afraid my frustration and provided info is very much true :-)

You have all the sections organized in your planner that I always *dream* of having organized. Instead, all my "values," "goals," "vision board," "to do," "shopping," "projects," "reading notes," "inspirational quotes," etc, are in different files on my computer. I don't know how you get yourself to keep everything so organized. I always thought if I could get that organized I would be happy and successful. Are you happy and successful? Does it work?
