Franklin Fire in Malibu burns out of control

Firefighters continued to battle the Santa Ana wind-driven Franklin Fire in Malibu Tuesday morning, and officials say the suppression efforts are far from over.

VV here: I finally moved out of Malibu. Lost 2 homes due to the fires over 26 years. Unbelievable that the community continues to expand home construction all the way into the mountains considering Malibu’s history. Malibu has lost its quaint charm now with all its new money.

Always when there are dry winds! Same up here in the north part of the state- red flag warning essentially guarantees numerous fire starts. And no it's almost never wind blowing powerlines down but wind + dry conditions doesn't start fires... Makes them start and grow far more rapidly, sure.

That area is under evacuation warning (stand by but not an order to go), and according to the Watch Duty map at 11:30 pm, the fire is still well to the east. 🙏

Yes wind and dryness alone don't start fires, but brush that's dry will rub with dry brush being driven by ferocious winds and create sparks, that will then ignite into flames. Thermodynamics
