Hey, so a quick tip with printing resin: if you rinse off the part in warm water before removing your supports they will pull off MUCH easier and not leave the large divots behind that you got when pulling them off.

Looks great! When you make tight fitting pockets for magnets add a small through hole in the center of the pocket to allow the air (and excess glue) to escape. Also, you might want to invest in an airbrush/compressor. It's easy to get your spatter effect.

You can hold a popsicle stick in front of the paint stream to get different kinds of speckles. Depending on the angle of the stick, the amount of the stick in the stream, and the amount of paint you allow to collect on the face of the stick will produce different effects. This trick can be used with H.V.L.P. paint guns also but it can be a lot more finicky.

Tip for making spray paint sputter/splatter (if you've never tried it)... Take the nozzle off the can, then with an "xacto" knife kinda drill out and "damage" the nozzle where the paint comes out. The more "chewed up" the nozzle, the greater the splatter. Of course that nozzle is useless for "normal" painting, so spares are good to have around. 👍

This is a dope project. Only thing I can say for someone trying to replicate the paint job is consider an airbrush instead of a rattle can. You will keep the speckles very fine and be able to build in a very slow and controlled way. It would be pretty easy. I imagine getting this result with a bunch of rattle cans would require a lot of experience with spray paint.

sadly the suite fx was the best part of the film~ great job sizing it what cosplayers forget is that it needs to ne uncomfortably tight to look right and not end up bobble heading you look magnets should never be added before the finished paint is complete otherwise the magnetism can affect the metallics and how they lay down if you want them not to show in the finish, add them last hopefully you top coated the blacks in that same satin 2K so they match the rest of the helmet airbrushing is the best way to get the fly specking that was used on the original low pressure splatter with each of the same colors you used would yield that hero like finish

The rough finish where the supports were can be mitigated somewhat by trying to orient the print such that the smallest and/or least visible part of the print is facing the build plate. Those first few layers get a LOT of exposure, which causes the fugly surface. Using a raft also helps. Resin is awesome. It's just totally different from FDM. I really want to get my hands on a large resin printer. The Mono X is much better than the standard Photon I started on, but still not big enough for me.

Love that you switch between FDM and SLA printers. Shows your diversity and true skill. I love my Phrozen Sonic 4k however it was a pain that it’s only compatible slicer is Chitubox. I’ve since upgraded to the Epax E10. Maybe check out those. There’s the E10 and X10

Use a dropper and fill your imperfections with a few drops of resin then cure with small uv torch, no need for filler. Nice build 👍

Great video. Resin printing works on exposure per layer, not how fast a nozzle can pump out plastic. So the time a print takes is based on the number of layers, not the amount of plastic needed to be placed. So, for large builds, they are much faster, taking like 3 seconds per layer, some less, some more. And if you can use the entire build surface at a time, can save you days in the end. So, yes. I am impressed. But the PPE needed to work with it makes me shy away from it.

I do not know if you know but a good tip to romove supports from resin prints is to use heat, like a heat gun or hot water, that way you do not leave scars in the print

As someone who is more into SLA than FDM printing I say keep it up. It's COULD use a tweak but this hobby is only as fun as you make it, and making it is what this hobby is so as long as you are doing stuff, it CANT BE THAT WRONG.. right?

Quick tip. Get yourself a cheap hairdryer and use that to soften the supports before removing. Heat softens the resin and allows the supports to detach easier and with less damage. Using a hairdryer is a lot less messy and problematic than using hot water like some recommend. And as others have no doubt said, you need to be experimenting a bit more with different support types. Heavies are great for ensuring the print won't fail, but mix and match smaller, lighter ones as well. All those extra supports you added for insurance? Probably could have been a mix of mediums and lights. Smaller supports means easier to remove and less damage to the print surface. Take some time to do some experimenting, accept that you'll have some failures while you work it out, and in the long run, things will go even smoother. Also, I love that you looked over the print, saw the layer shift and quickly worked out it was a suction issue. Great instincts!!

Been resin printing for a few years. So here is my tip, give it a try may work for you may not. I always soak my prints with supports attached in IPA. For one it leaves less pits and scaring, two they remove a lot easier. Most of my prints I let soak overnight and never had an issue. Some people think its bad, and will ruin print, but out of 100s of resin prints I have done, never had an issue and used many different kinds of resin.

The build turned out great man. I really can't wait till i an afford and also have the space to have a large size resin printer. Currently have a midsized one. At quick glance I already saw some people offering some great tips. I don't know about anyone else but I tend to wash my prints in alcohol while the supports are still on to avoid resin splattering on you when break off supports since it's such a toxic material. And this way after I washed them in alcohol I can put them in warm water or you can also use a heat gun which I like best to remove the supports. They melt off like butter and no water or resin splattering everywhere when you use a heat gun.

This looks dope! A large format resin printer is a bit too expensive for me, but I use mine for smaller parts that have fine details. One recommendation is to use resin that is ABS like, or getting something like sirayatech Blu and mixing some in with regular resin. Makes it almost as tough as ABS.

For the speckle pattern, try to spray some on your glove and flick some on the print. It’s a technique used to make stars on those speed painting with using newspaper to make planets.

Gloves!! Even grabbing the build plate out of the printer you should be using gloves, as that top part will still absolutely come in contact w/ resin throughout the handling process. The second you go to open those doors you should be gloved up, resin burns are absolutely not joke. Helmet turned out amazing though, love seeing more stuff done in SLA.

In my mind, your paint job is more what I would expect based on the comic. The tiny speckled paint job makes me think more battle damage and cover up than living alien armor.
