Deforestation in Brazil has nothing to do with food production. 75% of the real food consumed in Brazil is produced by families in small properties using much more sustainable methods. The deforestation is caused mostly by big farmers who only grow cattle or produce soy and it’s for export. And alternative methods already exist but the big farmers are not interested. The richest farmers received (for free) one generation ago large extensions of land in order to occupy the countryside with white people. Still today many indigenous people get killed in “fight” for land! It’s a fight for land. So the big farmers just cut thousands of trees and set fire to the forest!

Acttually the deforestation is not for agriculture. Most of the deforrestation happens to provide wood to Europe. The soil in the Amazon is terrible for plantations, most of brazilian farms are in other region.

I see what you are trying to say, that the classification is almost null when the similarities are that big. Yes, but race IS a scientific classification for ANY living thing, science does not stop at Family and Genus. So yes, differences in animal races are much bigger, like dog races, but we cannot make cosmetics for "people", there ARE differences in skin and mnay other things. Science is that granular nowadays. So there ARE races, there ARE differences, just none of them are "better" or should be "more desired".

Depende, raça como dito no IBGE é algo socialmente forjado (branco, pardo, preto, amarelo etc...) mas raça por termos técnicos existe, tecnicamente falando, os povos indo-europeus são os povos brancos, enquanto apenas negroídes (negroids) seriam negros / preto. It's both! It is important to recognise the biological differences, specialy when ALL the protocols in hospitals are based in white people caracteristics, for example, and there is scientific studies that show how damaging this has been to the quality of treatment for people of other races. And is also very important to recognise the sociological differences because centuries of slavery and subjugation are not resolved as easily, as we can see in Brazilian society. Dark skinned black people are treated differently than pardos, that are treated differently than whites. It's like a pyramid scheme, but for races, hahah. I understand the romantic view that we are all equal and etc., but I believe that we need to recognize and learn how to deal with differences, only then we can really achieve equality. Erase the colors and the race is erase the cultures and the history behind it. (I noticed is easier for white people to claim 'we are all humans'' and "let's forget our differences", when the differences forgeted will not be the white ones, hahahaha) I believe we are all equal in being all different. And THAT is beautiful. Ps. The correct way of calling sweet cookies is ''bolacha'' and the salty ones are ''biscoito'', hahaha!

É legal pensar que a Holanda possui uma proximidade histórica com o Brasil. First, I thank you SO MUCH for the comments about meat!! I couldn't agree more. But I have to tell you've been a little too superficial towarts ethnic origins. Let me explain why it's important, here in Brazil, the way people identify themselves: white ppl were never made slaves in Brazil. Asiatic ppl were not brought here as slaves, with no civil right. Black people were, for almost 400 years. So, in a manner to try to offer some kind of reparation to black people, that can diminish the social abyss existent nowadays, it's still important to understand how did that happened, at first. How things became the way it is now. It's part of a current process of reparation and emancipation of this population, who still suffers so badly with bad oportunities, lack of jobs, social questions, institutional racism, and whatsoever. (also, native tribal people still have other specific demands to be protected in their rights) All those are very deep points that I don't intend to have a final word about, but just try to show you that it's not that simple as just saying "let's all be human race". Ciao Frank! Just a note: feeding lots and feeding cattle gains is a somewhat recent thing in Brazil. Most small farmers in the interior regions still grass feed all their cattle. The milk and cheese are waaaay better, and in states like Goiás, (where I'm from), and many others, the grassland is "kinda natural". Same can be said about most other farm animals.

And the movie bring a litle discussion about the latin america exploration and the regional inequalities. About your video: here in Brazil, unfortunately, the racism is very expressive as a structural racism form, it determines the violence with the back people and lead the social inequality. I totally agree that there are a unique people, and only one race, but to study the statistics correlations, this classification is essencial. We were the last country to to abolish slavery and we suffer the consequences until now. The most suicide and homicide here is against the black and brown people. The lowest wages are for black and brown people. The majority of the prisioners in Brazil are black and brown people. When we ignore this racial segregation we can't advance and evolute in this discussion. Adoro quando falam que "estão desmatando a Amazônia para plantar", me vêm à cabeça uma imagem de alguém dizendo o mesmo sobre o Saara: iremos plantar soja nas dunas kkkk. Mais de 80%, quase 90%, de toda floresta está intacta desde que o mundo é mundo. Desmatamento ocorre nas áreas periféricas e são uma miséria. A pressão na Amazônia não é porque os países querem protege-la, é que com isso "obrigam" os governos brasileiros (seja qual for no momento) a criarem novas leis restringindo as áreas de cultivo por todo território nacional, e o motivo é simples: o Brasil utilizando apenas 7% de seu território briga de igual para igual com os EUA (que utiliza incríveis 18%) e acaba com qualquer país europeu. O cálculo é simples, se o Brasil é o maior produtor mundial de grãos com 7% de território, o que aconteceria se fossem 8, 9, 10%?? A questão da Amazônia é isso, interferir no agronegócio do Brasil para que ele não assuma eternamente a ponta da agropecuária mundial. Enquanto os próprios brasileiros não perceberem isso e pararem de dar força para esse discurso falso, os concorrentes comerciais do Brasil ficarão eternamente gratos. Basta ver que os países que mais reclamam do Brasil em questões ambientais são os mesmos que acabaram com as próprias florestas. Por exemplo a Alemanha, que tem apenas 20% de sua vegetação preservada porque, ainda hoje, usam carvão em sua planta de energia. França também acabou com mais da metade da própria vegetação. E são esses que merecem crédito em questões ambientais? Acordem!!!!

Portugal didn't conquer land from the Natives, they allied them. It worked in a completely different way in Brazil. Portugal did establish colonies in Brazil but as an ally of the Native tribes. Then the natives started migrating to the Portuguese colonies and the colonists there were 9 to 1 native to Portuguese. They spoke a native language and had native appearance. Portuguese in Brazil was only used to communicate with the king, even the State (official) language was native. The Portuguese and it's allied tribes did wage war on other enemy tribes, but that usually happened because the other natives were kidnapping people to eat.

Algumas observações: 1 - As questões envolvendo o desmatamento da Amazônia está longe de ser por conta da expansão territorial. 2 - Existem estados brasileiros com maior ou menor população de determinada etnia, mas não existem essas separações acentuadas como foi colocada no vídeo. Você encontra diferentes etnias em qualquer lugar do país, exceto os indígenas que realmente tem uma maior concentração no estado do Amazonas. 3 - As tribos indígenas não estão atrás em questões evolutivas. São culturas e modo de se viver totalmente diferente. Não podemos normatizar, dizendo que o modo de viver ocidental que é o evoluído. Um exemplo é que os indígenas conseguem conviver de maneira sustentável com os ecossistemas, enquanto nós "evoluídos" estamos destruindo nossa própria casa. O que falta nessa análise é respeito e entende que existem culturas diferentes. 4 - Eu sou um brasileiro com ascendência indígena, africana e portuguesa. Nunca que eu vou me dar bem com um país colonizador que matou e escravizou os meus antepassados. Quando os portugueses chegaram até as terras brasileiras, existiam uma diversidade de ameríndios, culturas, línguas e quando você olha para esse gráfico hoje, você pode ver que até a população asiática é maior que a população nativa. Não existe possibilidade de eu me entender bem com um país que tem na sua história o sangue dos meus antepassados.

Hey Frank, I like your videos. I watch them from time to time. I wanted to just give my two cents on something here, because I know you give a good space for it 🙂. I get what you mean when you say you can't wait until we don't identify ourselves by skin color anymore. I would love for that to happen too, but then we would have to go back in History and undo a lot hehehe. The topic is much more complex than just saying "we are humans, no colors, doesn't matter". For this topic we have to put biology a tad bit on the back burner (kinda) and have to think about the topic historically and sociologically. Skin colors are real. Well, racism and colorism are real. They exist in many forms and are systemic. Saying that colors do not matter basically means we deny the existence of different skin colors, and along with it history and many of the issues that still exist. Mind you, the issue is not that different skin colors exist and that we can verbally acknowledge them, but rather how the world is structured. Also, skin colors are very much part of identity, of the sense of belonging. They are indeed of great importance and are nothing that should be ignored. Again, the issue is how some a-holes have DECIDED that there is a hierarchy based on skin colors. Just one more thing, (and this is not at all meant as an attack so if you feel offended I apologize), it tends to be the people who have never suffered any form of racism due to skin color to say "skin color does not matter". I don't know if this applies to you, but I am just pointing it out because it is something we have to pay attention to. I myself am constantly trying to pay attention to what I say in this topic. Well, hope you one day get to visit our country if you haven't yet. It is indeed an incredible place. I am sure you would love it.
