illya Kuryaki are the direct references of Catriel and Paco Amoroso, the duo you reacted to at the Tiny Desk. This was a hit that opened the doors to the rap genre in Argentina, which was quite resisted until that time. They never took themselves very seriously, because they also used humor, kitsch culture, trash aesthetics and B-movies. Spinetta's fans hated them at first, imagine being the son of a rock god and coming out with this... but as they grew they began to improve their productions, to venture more into funk, techno disco, very influenced by Prince and R&B... They were a strong influence on the current urban genre throughout Latin America, but they were also surrounded of very good musicians, like Paco and Catriel who, in my opinion, surpass them in musical training. So 90s. I'm Argentinean and loved them back then. They actually refined their style over time and ended up being pretty good. They have an MTV Unplugged which was really good if I'm not mistaken.

In Argentina and Uruguay (both sides of River Plate) "abarajar" (synonym of: "barajar") means: "To pick up or receive something in the air" so the phrase would be something like Throw me in the bathtub, baby (Abarajame en la bañera, nena) in an almost literal way although probably put into context it has a secondary meaning

The sound and the martial arts thing was clearly influenced by Wu Tang Clan's 1st album (this came out 2 years later) The lyrics are not a great thing but this sounded all day on the radio, i was 8 y/o so i remember it very well. Dante (the guy in White clothes) is the son of Luis Alberto Spinetta, a legendary Argentinian musician.

Haha, Frank, you chose a difficult song because its lyrics have a lot of lunfardo. Groups like Cypress Hill, Control Machete or Molotov were just beginning to be heard when, at 16 and 14 years old, IKTV had their first hit with the song “Es Tuya Juan” from the first album “Fabrico Cuero”. Today they split up and got back together but they have left Rap/Hip Hop to move on to Funk and Disco with a bit of Trap as well. I don’t know if you can react to more of their stuff because Copy is very aggressive but the truth is that they deserve to be heard a bit more. There is a show they gave at Luna Park, it is worth seeing, but you will not be able to react to it. As for the rock scene, it’s true that Soda Stereo, Spinetta and Charly are the top exponents. But if you only stay there, you’ll miss a lot. Like Willy Crook, Daniel Melingo, Gillespi (who everyone has as a comedian), he is a great jazz and funk artist, in fact I am going to recommend his song “Neon” to say goodbye. If you can't react to it, listen to it with a good glass of wine, liquor, drink or tea.

Mixing in a very kitsch way all the influence they have (ninja movies, hiphop with texmex pronounciation, spanglish, portuñol, funk) again, mixed with Buenos Aires villas and characters. And the kitsch part, the cringe part is concious decision. They show us a lot of this old things to a lot of (then) teenagers.
