She's actually not a songwriter. Her concerts are built of renditions from several Brazilian artists interwoven with spoken word (also by Brazilian and international poets and writers). It's a concert format she developed herself throughout the years and kinda perfected it. I saw her live once and It's really something else.

I believe that that song was composed by Roberto Carlos (named youth's king) in 60's or 70's, hence the "classic" vibe. Maria Bethania is one of the top Brazilian female singers. As Noemi Rocha already said, she is Caetano Veloso's (one of the founders of Tropicalia movement in the 60's) sister and has been around our musical scene since that time. Her performances always mix music and theater.

This whole show is fantastic. She was in her late 60s then. I absolutely love Bethânia. She's the rare singer that brings you into the song and keeps you there for the duration. I believe the songwriters are Erasmo Carlos/Roberto Carlos. She's Caetano Veloso's sister, btw. I'd say Grito de Alerta, Reconvexo, Gesubambino, ÂMBAR. Whenever she sings Chico Buarque, especially his brokenhearted female profiles, get out of my way! Atrás da Porta, Olhos nos Olhos, Eu te amo, oh, Bethânia singing Chico is like Joan Baez singing Dylan, but better, more intense, imho. In this particular show, she sings a gorgeous song with Adriana Calcanhoto (another one you should listen to, though the lyrics is where it's at with AC). Bethânia, showing her theater credentials, gets so into it with AC that you can feel the sexual tension between these two great artists, in spite of their age difference. And what I love the most about Bethânia: she is so beautiful in the most non-standard way. Many may say she's ugly, until they get into her art. Then we all fall in love, period.
