Why Dewa switch from Dewa 19 to Dewa? DEWA is actually an acronym of the first names of the band members D: Dhani (Keyboard, backing vocal) E: Erwin (the first base guitar player of Dewa, he left the band in 2002, Erwin just recently passed away on May 2nd, 2020) Elfonda Mekel aka Once, the new vocalist of Dewa who replaced Ari Lasso W: Wawan (the first drummer of the band, left the band in 1994) Wizztyo Nugros aka Tyo Nugros (the drummer on this video, he joined Dewa in 1999) A: Andra (lead guitar) & Ari Lasso (Vocalist) 19: 19 is the age when they formed the band in 1986, they was 19 years old. Long story short. In 1999, Ari Lasso suddenly left the band, because he was in a very serious drug addiction, during that time, Dewa was working on their 6th studio album, called Bintang Lima, Ari Lasso had already recorded 5 songs, including Roman Picisan, Elang, and etc. And then Dhani offers a solution for Ari Lasso, while Ari Lasso recovering from his drugs addiction, Dewa will use a new concept, the concept is using two vocalist for the band, but Ari Lasso disagreed with Dhani's offer. And after a long talk with him about the new concept, Ari Lasso decided to left the band in February 1999, to focused on his rehabilitation attempt to healed from Drugs addiction, after Ari Lasso left the band, Ahmad Dhani as the leader of the band, selected Elfonda Mekel aka Once as the new vocalist of Dewa 19. And Ari Lasso give his blessing to Once to replace him as the new vocalist of Dewa 19. And then after that, Ahmad Dhani changes the name of the band from Dewa 19 to DEWA. The fun fact is, when Dewa 19 was still with Ari Lasso as their vocalist, the selling of the CD & cassette during their era in the 90s, reached 700.000 copies, but when Once joined as the new vocalist of Dewa 19 in late 1999, the band reach a record selling 2 million copies on Once's debut album with Dewa, and the 6th album of Dewa, called Bintang Lima (The Five Stars) back in 2000. Later in late 2000, Ari Lasso makes a surprise return to the music industry after missing for about a year after he left Dewa 19, and in 2001, Ari Lasso released his first solo album and since then, he become one of the most successful male solo artist in Indonesia. And later in June 2001, Ari Lasso confirmed that he is officially healed from his drug addiction that have been bugged him since 1993.

You should react to roman picisan by dewa. its a song from the album "bintang lima", which means 5 stars. "Bintang Lima" is like the indonesian sgt peppers album. It changed the music scene in Indonesia, especially in the early 2000s. Dewa is our beatles i assume.

thanks so much for the reaction. dewa band already change the vocalist in three times, the former is ahmad dhani. ari lasso is first vocalist when dewa band first time in formed. and then ari lasso out from the band, replaced once mekel. in 2010 once go out from the band, and now dewa was 2 vocalist, virzha and marcello tahitoe(ello). in this song, pupus (it mean faded in english language), made in once mekel era in 2002

oh and to be clear. Ari Lasso is Dewa's original vocalist. but then in the late 1990s he got drug problems which force him to be taken out from dewa. Then came Once to replace him. The thing is after Once came in, Dewa breaks the album sales record in Indonesia. That album is called "Bintang Lima", with hit songs such as "Roman Picisan", "Cemburu", "Sayap-Sayap Patah". I may be biased, but I think the album is WORLD CLASS musically. so you should check that out, Thank you for your reaction!
