The first half is Zho Shen's real voice at his comfortable singing zone, the second half is his own interpretation in Chinese. Puberty did nothing to change his vocal range, which left him with a childlike voice. He has never been trained in falsetto but as a tenor, falsetto or head voice is self- taught because his teacher refused to train him in falsetto.

Hi Frank, when we are little kids, boys and girls have similar voice, both high. Once hit puberty, boys’ voice normally become lower and deeper. Zhou Shen’s voice didn’t change during puberty, that’s all. It’s his natural voice, pure as an angel. I feel the same as another viewer who left you a comment, I didn’t feel comfortable when you used “castrated” on him.

It's his natural voice, which u probably already knew in many comments about where this came from. You'll see if u hear him speak. Surely his singing involves a lot of techniques. He's very skillful and undoubtedly a spectacular singer but in no way other people can produce that kind of voice even with the same technique. Or many skillful singers would just sound the same.

I really like your Zhou Shen videos! I think people are confused about what "falsetto" actually means in a musical context, hence some of the comments you've received. After this performance, the judges even point out that it's brave for him to use his "real voice" to sing the Chinese verse. As you said, he mostly sings in falsetto/head voice. In the show, he calls himself "countertenor-ish" because he was never trained as a countertenor, just as a tenor, but his natural range is just that high. If you're still reading these/taking requests, I'd love to see a reaction to his duet "Yue Wan Wan/Crescent Moon" with Elvis Wang (who sings bass) also from Super Vocal. Hi Frank, this is his natural voice. There is techniques in his singing but thats certainly not the reason for his high voice. His voice didn’t go thru puberty. His voice is high even when talking, he’s got mistaken as a girl when talking to people on the phone.

Hello Frank, thank you for a great reaction to Zhou Shen. He has a beautiful and kind of unique voice. I read a little information about him. Zhou Shen studied in Ukraine. He studied medicine, but in the back of his mind music has always been his passion, so he entered Voice of China. Zhou Shen says" his voice was normal until junior high school, and when everybody's voice getting dipper, his actually went higher. He was kind of jocking that puberty run away from him." My guess, it is some kind of medical phenomena. Zhou Shen is known for his distinct soprano vocals. Here is the link to the song "Big Fish" Sing! Will, this might be a bit late, but he were graduated from Lviv Conservatory in 2016, studied in Bel Canto and Vocal Music, he start to sing in live streaming platform YY since 2010, but never really show his face to his fans till 2014, when the director of The Voice of China spend over 3 months to find him... And his childish voice were partially due to natural born voice disorder, so he have never had his voice change period in puberty, and now he had been know as "The One Man Choir" in Chinese music world.

I've watched this video many times since last year, because I'm his fan now.🙂 Zheng Sheng has become very popular and famous now. You're right about him using techniques to sound like women. He's just not used to sing with his nature voice anymore. That has become the most comfortable way for him to sing. The unnature way has become nature way, which makes him such a unique singer. We know a lot of male singers can sound like woman, but no one can sounds that nature. In China, we also heard a female can sing sound like man, and she can switch the different sound back and forth effortlessly as well. I know a lot of people will refute, and insist that his female voice is his nature sound, but in singing this song "Memory", we can clearly heard his nature male voice .

I believe that this is his natural voice because he sings like that everytime, even on livestreaming on his birthday, he actually has problem going deep :))) And even though he has excellent techniques (people seem to underestimate it because they are absorbed in his beautiful voice), "Memory" is not the one that shows his technique the most. Yes there are techniques. Similar to European culture, our Chinese people were patriarchal that women are not allowed to play drama. So man plays women role in a Beijing opera should have a distinguishable, special high voice that not every male could possibly reach. Frank, sorry to correct ur comments. That Chinese lyrics in mid bass, which sounds more masculine , that’s not his speaking voice as you thought. He studied tenor in Ukraine, not countertenor. So he also can sing like a strong man...he can sing Songs in low voices through practicing. but not that’s not his comfortable voice register. However, I do agree that such a wonderful performance demands his great efforts and techniques. No one is born to be talents. Enjoy watching ur reaction! He is a natural countertenor sir.. We have a rare case here.. His vocal chords fail to change when he is in his puberty which means the surge of testosterone during the puberty stage of his body never reach or affect his vocal cords.. If you look closely on his neck he has no adams apple which we all know, the sign of being a testosterone driven vocals.. Listen to some of his interviews, his modal voice is in high tenor range but it sounds a lil bit higher and unusual for a man..

as someone who speaks both Chinese and English I find that the Chinese language tends to be spoken in a lower register due to the area of the mouth / throat the language tends to use, I notice this in most of the people I've talked with.

周深高音部分就是假声，人家一点儿没说错。只是共鸣和力度都掌握得很好，听上去像真声。而且他会故意在一些低音区用混声，更加让人难以区分真假。

Well i think, the closest of his real voice (the voice that he speak) is at the 'someone mutters' part, the 2 part of the song(chinese) he sang lower than his usual voice. the 1st part is i think he switch his voice from falsetto to his real voice to falsetto back.

@@hoanglinhls btw, yeah, i know that, it just that was my opinion of his closest speaking voice to the song(memory)😊 unless he's excited or speaking to wang xi😏😆, or trying to 'highlight' his words, then his voice would totally become higher😆😆💘 but really, his falsetto and his real voice didn't differ much just only tin~y, tiny bit, so, many wouldn't notice it.
