Love this version. My brother in law was the drummer in this group. ❤️❤️ used to go travelling with them when they played. Miss them days

The acoustic version....as if they were on MTV Unplugged. I bet it would sound very similar.....

I love this version. It's got that 60s garage vibe

This version has a different quality, a sense of loneliness and fragility that, on the other is less pronounced. It gave a new life to this already classic, even being older. I love it!

First time to hear this. I knew Mick for a while when he was in the Frantic Elevators, then I went to Miami to work on cruise ships. It was on a ship that I first heard Simply Red's first album (which I bought on cassette).

Mick Hucknall was the lead singer of the punk band The Frantic Elevators (1977 - 1979). This was their last record and a drastic change from everything they did before. The band broke up after and Mick formed Simply Red in early 80's, rerecorded and rereleased this song.

That would have made a good background soundtrack for Pulp Fiction. That song would have been perfect to play when "Butch" was going to get his watch that was passed down from his great grandfather to his grandfather to his father and to "Captain Koons" ass and then Butch's hand....

It´s such a garage sound, love it. And Mick`s voice is not punk at all, a truly soul man voice

I never heard this before and had never heard of Frantic Elevators until a youtube short a couple minutes ago. I like this, it's raw and not polished like Simply Red's version even though it's the same singer.

The SR version is a classic, but this is more powerful through raw simplicity and with some polishing after the demo stage could have been a potential hit in its own right

Does anyone know where I can find either an MP3 or hard copy CD of this version? Vinyl single is impossible to find and would love to have an audio version of this performance- jangle guitar performance is simply sublime. As good as old school Johnny Marr

This version isnt bad. This definitely shows the versatility of Mick, his voice pretty much sounds great with any genre it seems. Simply Red was great group. But the Simply Red Soul Version > Frantic Elevator Punk Version.

Mick was the only member of Frantic Elevators who transitioned to Simply Red. Tony Bowers (bass) and Chris Joyce (drums) were previous members of the bands Durutti Column and Mothmen, Tim Kellett (brass and vocals) was also a previous member of Durutti Column, Fritz Mcintyre (keyboards and vocals) was a session musician.
