Frantic, you were correct about the 737 and the A320! The easiest way to tell them apart is the windows, on an Airbus, the farthest back cockpit window's top back corner will slant down, and on a 737 the outermost windows will make a point downward either side of the cockpit. Another way to tell is the engines, the A320 has fully circular engines, while the 737's appear slightly flattened on the bottom. The "stairs must be attached" message is an error, if I had to guess the jetbridge just doesn't have any custom messages so the game just uses the default one for airstairs. The towbar sounds accurate from your description, to be honest. We don't usually manoeuvre them using a tug unless we're driving it across the whole airport, once we get close to the plane we usually just drag it to connect it to the plane. We're actually required to connect the towbar to the aircraft first, as well, so if we do drive it across the airport, well disconnect it from whatever tug we used to get it there and connect it to the plane. The person following you when you pushed the plane was the "primary marshaller," whose only job while the plane is pushing back is communicating with the flight crew. At my station we usually don't separate that role from the pushback driver, but it can be. Could also have been the "disconnect" wingwalker, whose job is exactly what it sounds like: to disconnect the towbar from the plane and clear all ground equipment from the airframe so the thing can fly.

Going off ground power before the plane is actually ready to taxi is a great way to waste fuel-a big no-no at a real-life airport.
