I am no sweet angel, which may be why I am not sleeping, but listening to this lovely piece. I had never heard it before, but I can imagine ladies like my Gran playing this in the front parlour.

This is almost operatic, the big theme like an aria! I would love to hear an orchestrated version. As ever very many thanks.

Abt and Oesten - both unknown in America! And after listening to this perfectly lovely piece ... I feel anger about their being unknown! >8 (

You play great. Have you considered playing more recent music? and other genres than classical. It would be very interesting

@PSearPianist Wow! Then I need to get up to speed. I've certainly never heard of them! But I'm thrilled to know them now. : D

@pjdonagh Thank you. I suspect that Abt's original song might sound more intimate, as Oesten does 'build it up' in places.

@MB7classical They were both known there - I think the edition I used was a US one. Oesten is still known by some (eg, his May Flowers (Maiblümen)).

@SunsetGrey Thank you. For copyright reasons my channel has mainly older music that is public domain and downloadable. However, you will find here some contemporary classical pieces, and also some movie themes, arrangements of popular songs etc.

@30inventionman I'm very sorry to hear that, and hope that music gives you some comfort.

@JazzChrissPL Thank you - I'm a library of a small part of the huge mass of obscure and unperformed piano music, maybe!

@harryfaber That's exactly where it would have been heard - but alas parlours now resound with the likes of the X-Factor!

Abt may be better known in US than in Germany today - have a look at ingeb.org/FranzAbt.html for a collection of his pieces, mostly songs. But I really enjoyed this one, thank you Peter.
