I get the impression that 62-year old Liszt, in the quiet moments before daybreak, was on the verge of discovering a new music, one that rejected conventions of thematic development and traditional Western chord voicings that Debussy would explore 20 years later. These are the late works of a virtuoso who was about to change the way we hear music. I feel that way about Bruckner’s 9th Symphony. Mahler would carry that torch into the next century, as well.

The squeaking noise in the background is kinda disturbing, but once you get used to it, it's great music.
