I'm glad Lajos' took on these obscure late works of Liszt, but despite the technical polish, his performance lacks real feeling and sensitivity, and comes across as somewhat mechanical.

It is a Bartokian approach of these revolutionary modern works. A puritan play because Kertesz is a calvinist pastor and a genuine Bartók interpreter as well. (see his Naxos recordings made in his 80th))

I find flourishes to be distracting, so I find this recording just right - the tautness really highlights the texture and contrasts
