Franz Liszt (1811-1886) - Sposalizio, from Deuxième Année de Pèlerinage: Italie, S. 161
For me, this has long been a dream piece, but there was always one section I couldn't quite get (the big dramatic climax - don't leave early or you'll miss it!). But this time, I practiced better and I'm glad I did. Liszt composed Sposalizio, which translates from Italian as "marriage", after being inspired by Raphael's painting The Marriage of the Virgin (also known as Lo Sposalizio).
