The Three Marches Militaires, Op. 51, D. 733, are pieces in march form written for piano four-hands by Franz Schubert. The first of the three is far more famous than the others. It is one of Schubert's most famous compositions, and it is often simply referred to as "Schubert's Marche militaire".

I played this piece (the version for solo player) when I made my concert debut in 1965, and practiced so hard and so long to make sure I got it right. My pants were falling down when I walked up the stairs to the stage and the crowd laughed at me, but I sat down, got out the music, and played the piece with no mistakes ! And I got a standing ovation. It is hard, but a worthy piece for an aspiring pianist. And I'm glad I worked so hard and did so well and am glad of it to this day.

I'm not here because of listening comprehensions, I'm here, because this guy hass Franz in his name, so I assumed he is from a German speaking country and then went to this song, because it's literally called military march. I didn't expect any marching songs like I listen to normally, but this was more pleasant than I imagined. I'd imagine that playing to a black and white Romance or an old cartoon. Simply beautiful

Schubert had his circle of friends but got little financial compensation for his work. Tragic life of most of the world's artistic geniuses in a world incapable of undertanding them in their own lifetimes. Yes, Schubert is one among many German geniuses that makes us Germans proud, but his music belongs to the world. Mozart is still the greatest who mastered all musical forms but Schubert's melodies are delightful.

Tempo Giusto ! L'excellente qualité de la prise de son est remarquable ! D'autre part, la peinture représentant Franz SCHUBERT, accompagne également l'oeuvre musicale avec bonheur ! ... Had to play this for my orchestra this year, and unfortunately I was the only person in my section that bothered to learn the music. This is even more problematic than usual, however, as my section is first violins. Basically the entire piece was a solo for me during the concert. My conductor ripped the shit out of me afterwards because he made me concert master and thought I hadn’t tried to teach the other people. Anyways, beautiful piece, and it will always hold a special place in my heart, even though it ended up getting me in a ton of trouble XD

Thank you for the upload. Schubert will always have a special place in my heart. Did he have to die so young? He was due to study counterpoint as well. Anyway, he'll be in the afterlife now, if he hasn't already come back to the physical plane.

In my high school orchestra one of the pieces we play every year for Christmas is a medley of Christmas tunes that opens with the beginning of this piece. I had always wondered what Christmas tune opened the medley since it isn't a Christmas tune with which I (or most of my fellow Americans, I suspect) was familiar. Since I've played that medley three consecutive years so far, it's a part of my Christmas. It's interesting to know it's associated with Christmas in Sweden.

I remember my music teacher talking about Schubert disrespecting Rossini. Schubert claimed he could easily compose pieces like Rossini's, and he proved it by composing... I don't remember what.

On the contrary, he said after hearing Rossini's opera Otello "You cannot deny that he has extraordinary genius." The first of his two Italian Overtures actually quotes the best known m melody from Rossini's opera Tancredi. Many of his songs were also influenced by Rossini.as was his "Little" Symphony in C major, No.6.
