Singer Ian Bostridge and Pianist Julius Drake are the performers. Great idea of making a video with "Winterreise". So well played and sang, and beautifully pictured. The winter journey it's a dark journey, to sadness, to coldness, to loneliness... no hope for this wanderer.

Cold and pure as the vacuum of outer space - just as the song should be.

Sometimes a Cigar is just a Cigar. I've always thought the Hurdy-Gurdy Player is just a poor old man who doesn't have anything else to do - this is what he does, he earns a few Bucks or not...One sees Street Musicians and Beggars exactly like this in all big Cities. It's their way of being in the World - tenuously connected to Society. So when the Dude - as I've always called the WINTERREISE Protagonist - has processed his grief and rage and shame at suddenly losing the Girl and the Life he wanted so much - he's ready to return to Society and the first Person he encounters is the Hurdy-Gurdy Man. 'Should I go with you? Will you accompany my Songs?' Sounds like the Dude has been through his Catharsis and is coming back to Life. But I personally lack a Tragic Sensibility.

He just has to get on with life, like the organ grinder who keeps grinding away! Sometimes death might be easier but not for him. He has to live. Wonderful performance. Young man's cycle.

This performance is fantastic. Perhaps not my absolute favourite, wish he wouldn't scoop the notes so much at the end, but such beautiful tone and expression that I still find myself listening to it on a few times a week. Only wish I could hear his voice live!

OMG I need this song for a fashion show, can someone please guide me to it so I can buy it? I can't find it on Itunes

A fashion show? Are going to parade emaciated models down the runway dressed as homeless people with shopping carts?! This is one of histories most disturbing anthems of alienation. The protagonist who has lsot his love wanders through the landscape in winter. A stream rushes by threateningly, s/he sees the tree where he spent time with the beloved. Dogs snap and bark at the protagonist. At the end of the long cycle, in this song, he sees barefoot pauper standing on the ice grinding a hurdy-gurdy. The protagonist asks whether the hurdy-gurdy man will play the protagonist's his songs. You're sure you want that in a fashion show?

Antonio Celaya It was a wearable art/technology show. I built a gown out of glass that lite up. It was fragile and vulnerable, and I did use this song, and it WAS perfect.

Superb but in my opinion not as good as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the definitive interpreter of Schubert lieder.
