Welcome to Fraser Island! For me, I was celebrating my 47th year of visiting Fraser since the first work trip back in sand mining days.
There's no better way than to introduce someone new to the beauties and wildness of the world's largest sand island so I invited my mate 'Flash' Matt from Section 8 4WD Club in Victoria along for the ride in his V8 76 Series. Matt;s a very experienced 4wder but he had never been to Fraser so this was going to be something real special. There was no way theHandbrake was going to miss out on this trip, and 'SMART' Richard and 'Sinbad' Si came to in Richard's 105 Series, plus Richard's misses Tukta came along who is a superb Thai cook, so stay tuned for some awesome cooking in some amazing locations!
As if that's not enough the man who wrote the book on Fraser, Brad 'MAXTRAX' McCarthy joined us for this trip with his custom built 6WD Toyota 200 Series desert crossing rig. Wait until you see this baby on the tracks!
Now unlike previous Fraser trips I've taken the time to give plenty of tips for people who've never been to the island to get an idea of what to expect everywhere from the barge crossing to the beach highway itself. In this episode we headed over to the fabulously remote Platypus Bay on the north west shore. Well known to the boat fishermen who cross from the mainland, not many people know about the track across the island that'll get you to some of the most magnificent country in Australia.

Mate this is the best Fraser presentation I have seen. I am on my way to Fraser this week in my new Ford Raptor. I wanted to go to Platypus Bay but I have no snorkel at this stage.

What a magical place. Havnt been there for 20 years - as a little tacker on the back seat of an old pajero with mum and dad. Taking my wife and daughter on our own big lap in 18mnths. Can't wait to cruise down Fraser islands pristine beaches!

I am so envious. Visited frazer in 93 and again in a rented troopy in 99 when my Wife and I travelled over from the uk to get married and spend our honeymoon traveling the east coast. Vowed to come back, but kids and life means its just too big a spend for us. Maybe one day I will get to feel the magic of Queensland again. Till then I will make do with watching you enjoying yourself Roothy.

Hey Roothy always gr8 to watch your videos on Fraser. Hope you can help me with this riddle we went up in july 2018 on one of our many yearly trips but the track to platupus bay was signed up by national parks as a fire trail.authorised vehicles only. So missed out that trip we're heading back up in November is the track reopened. Cheers keep up the good work.

So Roothy from Rainbow we used to cross from Dundaburra to Awinya Creek or drive up at low tide from just below Coongul Creek if we came via River Heads. Is driving on the inside beach prohibited now? The western beach is fabulous. Good to be in convoy though because it can be tricky.

Great work Roothy! Roothy, or anyone for that matter, are you able to run a gas line down from the gas bottle on the roof rack or do you have to pull it down? I can't find a line long enough for that set up, I'd have to pull it off every time.

Fires only in designated firepits at Dundubara, Waddy and a couple of other campgrounds, but often banned even there in summer.
