Today, I'm spending all day 'at Sea' on my 14-night Cunard Queen Elizabeth cruise. In this video, I'm going to show you what my day looked like, in order for you to understand what a day at sea could look like for you.
We're going to start the day by touring the ship, covering some of the key venues, including the main Atrium, the Library, the world-famous Queens Room, and the Royal Court Theatre. After that, we'll head to the Britannia Dining Room for lunch with my fellow solo travellers, before a whole afternoon full of activities!
As the day pushes on, I'll then take you with me to the 'Black and White' Gala Evening onboard - my first ever Cunard formal night. Is Cunard as formal as they say? What's the dress code like? You can make your own mind up in this video!

Thank you! Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Oh how I loved the gala nights on Cunard. Everyone was always so relaxed yet enjoyed being dressed to impress. I remember some of the staff in the shops saying how they liked the formal nights too as they loved to watch guests walking around looking elegant. By the way how did the solo meetings go?

Thanks so much for watching - I also really enjoyed them! Interesting the crew loved seeing everyone - I did find the crew on QE to be so so people centric! The solo meet ups were awesome - they were led by Cunard staff, and coffee/tea every morning - I was so impressed!

Another great video. I found the Queen Elizabeth to be beautiful as well. As for the dress code aboard the ship, I think Cunard used to be substantially more formal. However, I have heard in other reviews that the dress code (or lack of one) is quite comfortable. I think as long as you don't dress lie you're going to a fun park, you'll be alright. I'm sure that for your other formal nights, you could probably have gotten away with a dress shirt and dark dinner pants/coat.

Hi Jim, I’ve also heard that Cunard have got much more casual over the years, which I’m personally thankful for. I do think there’s a place for the ‘formal’ nights, but I do enjoy the more relaxed atmosphere on the other nights…!!

You sell yourself short on the dressing up/James Bond look. Keep up the elevated look! Cunard is not for everyone but if you fully participate in the dress code and festivities, you get a lot out of your voyage. Also great to hear that solo travelers are looked after well; you seemed disappointed in the lack of attention from Virgin in that category.

Choose twin beds, the setup gives you the illusion of more room, and it’s soooo comfy! I’ve done three TAs with my bestie, but I am considering doing a solo one this year…. The lectures repeat on the TV starting at noon, the theater ones sometimes have audio issues. We do breakfasts via room service except for the last day, the menu is the same (except no pancakes). We only did lunch once, instead we really enjoyed our tea (we did the tea room, the buffet and room service for tea, the experience in the tea room can’t be beat, but the buffet for tea has a certain appeal). We always choose last seating for dinner. We do the lunch in the pub on day one, and the “disco” is fun- we don’t care for big band but the rest of the live music was wonderful!

What a great comment - this will help so many, I’m sure! The pub early on is a great shout - lots of people don’t know it’s included, ha! Good advice re the beds - I’ve always opted to have them together, but will maybe try that in future. Thanks so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment!!

Haven’t sailed Cunard yet…nice to see everything available on a sea day. I use highlighters too. Just not sure I want to pack heavy evening gowns for formal nights, though! I love room service for breakfast. Sunny side up is just fried eggs with the yolk on top (unbroken unless you specify hard-cooked). Nice that they do a lot of solo events, too! I was afraid they wouldn’t be good for solos.

Hi Fraser, did you try the spa? I've never been a spa guy but I was gifted a full voyage pass on QM2 and now I'm a convert! Can't start my day without spendibg an hour in the thermal pool. Cunards spas are just so beautiful. Queen Elizabeth's isn't grand as QM2s, but still really nice.
@FraserAtSea
@FraserAtSea 7 ай бұрын
Hey! I did actually - I feature this in my full ship tour, which will air after this vlog series finishes - it’s such a gorgeous space, isn’t it? I usually find spas on ships to be too pricey, but I really enjoy on some ships - this was one of them! I thought it was nice on QM2 aswell - shame mostly on the inside though!

Thanks, Fraser. It's lovely to see my favourite ship again. I love to dress up a bit on Gala nights because it's something we never get to do at home (Australia is ultra-casual). I don't own a ball gown and my husband doesn't own a tuxedo, but we still dress up. I always enjoy walking around the promenade deck and standing at the back of the ship to watch the wake. My favourite thing about cruising is I don't have to do any cooking!!

I was on this same voyage. The beauty of this ship is stunning. Like you, I thoroughly enjoyed Afternoon Tea every day, as well as the live music throughout the ship. I loved the cuisine and fine wines in the Britannia. My general impression is that Cunard's standards of service are being lowered (I've been on other Cunard ships), and I'm wondering if they are not short-staffed. Nevertheless, I'm glad I booked this voyage!

Ah, you were on the ship at the same time - what a small world! Interesting point that standards seem to be coming down - I’m a newbie to the Cunard world, so can’t comment on that, but will be able to in a few years I guess. Thanks so much for watching, Thomas!

Hi Fraser, We sailed on Queen Victoria many years back for two weeks having snagged a double length balcony cabin on the Port side towards the Aft of the ship, the cabin was a standard size balcony cabin but the balcony was double length due to the area between our cabin and the next I think was a crew stairway. However having had the best food ever on a cruise ship we decided that Cunard was not for us, having to wear a jacket and shirt every night became very tedious and even in the Buffet! things may have changed now regarding what you wear but I doubt we will go back on another Cunard cruise. Friends who sailed on the Q.E and came back saying the very same thing about being too Formal.
@FraserAtSea

Sounds like a great balcony Dave, and I do appreciate what you mean. I didn’t mind it on QE, but have since cruised QM2 and was ‘over’ the formality of it all by the 3rd night 😂 Sometimes, I just want to have dinner in ‘normal’ clothes - I hear you! Thanks for watching as always!!

Thank you for your video on QE. We went cruising for the first time on any cruise ship December 2023 and were lucky enough to be on the QE. There was so much to do and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we are booked again in Dec 2024. Sadly QE will no longer be coming to Australia/New Zealand after mid 2025 so will not be able to cruise on her after that due to airfare costs.

Did you have a preference between QE and QM2? My first ever cruise was on QM2 last year (TA), but loved it so much, have now got QV and another QM2 trip booked. Thinking I may have to try the whole fleet. But without much experience, I am torn between which I like the look of most, so curious to hear a quick feedback from you, as they are all seemingly amazing in their own right, and trying to find which is more suited to me

Very good question - I’d answer by saying both provide a TOTALLY different experience. I’d say I was surprised how much (and how little) they both had in common - you’ll see this in my QM2 videos in due course. Long story short - book both 😉
