It could never be awkward with Diane because Frasier's greatest connection to cheers was Diane, while the rest of them were mates not one of them had that lifelong effect on him like Diane had. He truly loved her and he never ever recovered properly from her leaving him ,she was really the only cheers cast member along with Lilith who's presence was necessary in Frasier. Yeah, I liked how it served to make peace with both the character and actor, since they had as much turbulence in real life as in fiction. Grammer even labelled it one of his favourite episodes for this reason. Really in hindsight, I like how most of the Cheers appearances don't feel tacked on for nothing and actually add some growth. How Frasier went from Sam's rival to a close friend he desperately wants to avoid breaking off, how he made peace with Diane, or how for all his jabs and indifference to Cliff he genuinely cares about him and wants his spirits raised (albeit Carla less so :P). And of course the multiple Lillith stories.

On the flip side, I'm glad they weren't afraid to make Fraiser a different character that fit the show better, he's not like his character from Cheers in a lot of ways but it made for a much better show. For example his disdain and lack of knowledge about sports makes for great episodes of Frasier with Martin, but kind of goes against the fact that he spent YEARS hanging out in a Boston sports bar with unrefined barflies through what must have been countless world series and super bowls
@redacted22752 жыл бұрын
@@rohunsaigal2576 Frasier's friendship with the "Cheers" crew existed exactly because of this discrepancy: even though Frasier was the odd man out he was treated with respect but without adulation... and Frasier never look down on them, too, so he must've tolerated sports events at times. @redmustangredmustang2 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that Coach was already dying. He had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in the mid 70's and had been drinking for many years that caused it. He quit drinking in 1976. He was going to retire from acting, but Cheers offered him the role which he took up. You can say that the role killed him. By the third season he lost so much weight and his health was declining because of the heart issues. He just couldn't health wise make it to the filming so he was just gradually written out sadly. I know its old, but you know the weird thing that Coach died at 61, Woody in real life is 60 and will be 61 the same age as coach died. Creepy.

It's a shame that Coach only made it to the very early points of Frasier's tenure, thus not getting the chance for a lot of chemistry together. I feel like if he had made it a bit longer, the later shows might have had more to say about him (though granted we might not have got Woody).

Something else is, is that she's now realizing that anyone who was jilted in such a humiliating way can't just pick up the shattered pieces of themselves, put them all back together one by one, then forgive them the very next day for it, and then life goes on happily after. I don't think underrated actors get as many awards as Kelsey has. Emmys, Golden Globes, PCA etc...

"Rhapsody & Requiem." What a perfectly pretentious title for Diane to name her play, haha.
@PaceFilmsProductions3 жыл бұрын
Basically means Joy & Sadness, and would tell the audience absolutely nothing about the contents of the play.

I love how the stage actors applaud Frasier's speech because they believe it's a masterclass in acting studies, not because they're aware of who he actually is in relation to Diane.

When I binged Cheers a few months ago, at first i was a little concerned with having to watch Kirstie Alley, but as an older friend of mine said, Rebecca was a lot less annoying than Diane. *confirmed*
@sammyrobbins68485 жыл бұрын
Oh definitely. Rebeca is waaaayyy better. Actually redeemable in my eyes.
@musicaltheatergeek795 жыл бұрын
Rebecca was a whiny gold digger! That didn't bother you? She was also a bitch to Cliff, Norm, and even made Woody cry. Diane may have been pretentious and indecisive, but she had a heart of gold. Several times she went to bat for the aforementioned three when they were down-and-out or in distress. Even Carla, who was always nasty to Diane, was the recipient of her good deeds.

I loved how annoying she was though. It was the biggest draw for me.
@shanefolan4 жыл бұрын
@@cygnusfloyd exactly- people who say she is annoying don't get the character and are taking it too seriously, it's like criticizing Sam for being vain,Cliff for being pompous or Carla for being bitter and spiteful-that's the point of their characters really-their quirks is what makes them funny. It's done for comedic effect and is clearly hyperbolic. This is sitcom remember-it is supposed to be detached from reality in order for it to work. You have to watch it through a comedy lens and then you will enjoy/appreciate it rather than over analyse it or take it at face value/literally otherwise you are missing the entire point and should avoid comedy genre in that case.

I liked them both but preferred Diane. She was very funny and a perfect foil for Sam

I'm almost certain they changed the end of this scene from when it first aired on NBC. When I watched this episode years ago, I could have swore that right after Frasier's tirade, "Franklin" is impressed and tells him "You should have auditioned for this role!". (The joke being that Frasier IS "Franklin".) I just watched it on Amazon prime, and I can't find that line there, either, but I thought it was hilarious at the time. Maybe they altered it for some reason.
@musicaltheatergeek796 жыл бұрын
Or perhaps you're misremembering and confusing it with another show, like many people do with the ending of BIG. They claim that the original ending had Susan go to the fortune teller machine and wish she were 'small' again so that she could attend high school with Josh and be his girlfriend. However, that is actually the ending to 14 GOING ON 30, a similarly themed TV movie released the same year (1988). There was no alternate ending for BIG.

Could be the Mandela Effect in action. Lately I've discovered that I have misremembered a lot of lines in movies from when I first saw them years ago.
